DREADED NEWS-earmites from one of the cats I took from the crazy lady with unspayed cats running her yard. Anyway the cat showing signs went to the dr and was given a dose of ear drops. I was told revolution would be the best bet to treat others so figured Id wait till kittens are old enough for thier own dose and get all the cats in one shot instead of doing thier advantage for the month. Is there any place online thats reliable? Looking around seems like the vets the best source so far.

Thanks for any insight.

How many cats will you be treating? There's also Advantage Multi and Bayer usually offers better deals on Advantage if you're needing to get the most from what you pay - Current offer is 2 free tubes with purchase of a 6 pack coupon. Use at your vet, of course.

My vet dispenses cat Revolution in syringes by weight. Costs me $4/cat.

32 cats(my 27 inside, 1 out and moms 4)

for 4 a cat is she splitting a dog dose? Good price I have to ask if they sell advantage multi as I learned about that after I got home.

I assume they are splitting the dose - but I've never really asked. I figured as many as I have to treat, I'm just happy it's not $12-15 per cat!
(And I trust them to not mess up the dosage or be giving me "junk")

I do have the chart on splitting it but its said its alot more easier to mess up then advantage so I really need to look at it and the product...If they wont sell the dog one I will end up going through psol...I know thier products are good and its no rx there

Advantage and Advantage multi are not the same, though. While you can split a large dog dose of regular Advantage there could be more risks involved with the Multi as it's more than one pesticide (imidacloprid and moxidectin) and meant to take care of fleas, ticks, earmites, and some worms - like the Revolution does (though that's only one pesticide - selamectin).

I know you can split Revolution, but I don't know about Advantage Multi---could be trickier. And the problem with using Revolution is that it's prescription-only, so you have to convince your vet to let you buy the big dog dose and split it.

One vet told me how to use Ivomec topically to treat ear mites. Really cheap! I would guess that since a vet told me how to do it that it's safe, and I've never had any trouble, but I don't want to dispense any possibly hazardous advice. Maybe if you call your vet they'll help out on that.

^Actually if the vet treats anything besides companion animals they may mix and dose that out for a couple of dollars. Mine is a rural vet and has done so for free - the tiny bit used for a couple doses for cat ears is nothing compared to a cow dose.

Yeah, my vet is a farm vet, too. I bought an entire bottle of Ivomec just because I have so many cats. And I treat friend's cats, too. No reason to send them to the vet for ear mites, or let them buy icky toxic ear drops at Wal-Mart. But that amount is practically free......there are probably thousands of doses in the bottle I bought. I know I haven't made a dent in it yet.

Its funny I have never seen much written on advantage multi. I never touched it.

I am not worried about the vet giving the dog one as I have a source of it non rx
I see where you could mess up as if used to advantage its just ok .4/.8 but the adjustment needing to be made for the dif packets might cause some concern for someone not thinking.
I also read about the Ivomec might only go the kitten revolution for the lil ones as I dont want to mess with somethign THAT tiny... even in few weeks you know
The vet would never direct ppl on THAT(real nice place tho...totaly not farm vets. thats what yahoogroups is for lmao.

Guess thats going to be the way to go. Do it on a weekday morning just in case

that reminded me...growing up my aunt was the crazy cat lady-no neuter/spaying cats all over...shed put some greasy globs in thier ears and tell me and her daughter don't touch them or you'll lose your hair...of course being the tomboy who WANTED no hair....I proved that wrong.
