Hi there so recently I took in 4 kittens from a friend there are 2 males and 2 females all healthy and very cute and active. They are only 8 weeks old. My concern is when I should get them fixed...I am going to be calling some vets in my area to check when to get them fixed but in the meantime should I separate the males and females? I don't want one of the females to get pregnant on accident that's my biggest fear also because they are siblings.

I found the text in this book spot on, but the illustrations aren't helpful at all. Good over all book

This mat caught my eye because of its size and texture, which traps fine litter rather well. It's large enough for jumbo litterboxes, which is also a plus. It's not quite as easy to clean as a...

This scoop was a freebie with some clumping litter I bought last year, and I like it so much that I've bought a second one. It's perfect for fine clumping litter, which it sifts very thoroughly....

They'll be fine for at least another 8 weeks and really will do best to have that time together. By 4 months old, you'll be more likely to find a vet willing to neuter the males early - many prefer to wait till 6 months old on the females.
At least getting the boys done by then, and then getting the girls in when a vet will spay them, should be fine.

If you go to a clinic you should have no trouble getting them fixed now or in next few weeks-the higher amount of ferals in area the better the chance the age requirment is lower in my experience. You have a good 1-2 months before even the earliest will begin to be able to breed. I did have a kitten at 3 1/2 months decide to attempt to mate a in heat girl-I got them both fixed the next week jsut to be safe but he looked so lost. My other vet used to require waiting till 4 months and new one is now 2 months. I have 24 adults and NEVER one pregnancy occur on my property
Good luck you should be having a blast watching their antics huh?

Thanks for the input. Yes they are so funny 3 of them look almost pure Siamese though one has white paws and a white spot on their nose and the 4th is white with grey striped legs and tail. I am still thinking up names for them by watching them and their personalities.

If the vet will do it, I prefer to spay females at 14 weeks. I've had them go into heat as early as 16 weeks so I like to get ahead of things. With males I don't mind waiting until they're 6 months old. But they can certainly be done earlier, too. Call your vet and ask what they recommend. But don't let them stay together unfixed after 16 weeks.

There is also the point of finding them forever homes, unless you yourself want to keep them...
It may be easier to do it when they are 10-12 weeks, then 16 weeks.
So in some variation, an agreement with the new owner can be necessary. Say, he promises to spay. He pays also full price but gets half the money back after the spaying is done. Good if you can tip about a good, and cheap vet nearby the new owner.
If necessary, you help him take the kitten to the vet for spaying.
Or something like that.
(Unless of course they must be socialized first. In this case, take all the time you do need for them. First things first).
Tx for helping them and good luck!

May I suggest http://www.friendsofanimals.org/index.html
On the right is a link for low cost spay/neuter vets in the area you put the zip code in.
In my area, you can go to that site or to the local APL to get a certificate. The APL charges $10.00 more though.
