All time favorite books?

I'm reading my all time favorite book for the fifth time right now:
The Witching Hour by Anne Rice. I am still amazed at the intricacy of the characters she portrays in this book, and how the story weaves way back through time in the lives of the Mayfair Witches. I'm always sad when I finish it (even though there are two more books following it) because I always feel like I am getting to know these people and when the books over they're gone

Anyone else have an all time favorite book they've read and re-read?

I have a bunch. I confess to being a chronic re-reader

The Lord of the Rings, The Silmarillion, both by JRR Tolkien

The Windrose trilogy by Barbara Hambly

Firebrand, by Marion Zimmer Bradley (her best, I think)

The Valdemar series by Mercedes Lackey

The (neverending) Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan

The Harry Potter series, of course!

and that's just a sampling...

I also love to reread the Dark Elf Trilogy by R.A. Salvatore. I haven't read them in a while, so once The Witching Hour is finished again, that will be my new project

I can't imagine life without books....

By far, the worst part of finishing a favorite book, is the leap back into the real world. Its such a let down I love to spend a whole day immersed in a land of elves and mythical crestures.

My favorite book ever is 1984 by George Orwell

After that I lovvvvve Memoirs of a Geisha

Wheel of Times Series by Robert Jordan (re reading from the beginning AGAIN.. Sue knows just how big of an undertaking THAT is)

Ya-Ya Sisterhood (the book is way better than the movie)

I am a big fan of Robert Jordan's, Wheel of Time Series as well.

I also like Diana Gabaldon's Outlander Series, and of course Harry Potter Series . Great stuff.

I think they are my favorite books to read over and over.

One of my favorite stand alone books is Beatrice Small's, A Moment in Time. I can read that one over and over and over too .

Reading is fun! *grin*

My very favourite is "Boy's Life" by Robert McCammon - about the magic of childhood. I have always loved it and always re-read it.
I like:
The Harry Potter series
Grimms fairy Tales
Bryce Courtenay books (The Power of One and Tandia)
Roots of Outrage by John Gordon Davis.

Those are just a few

Melissa, I LOVE The Witching Hour as well. Too bad Lasher and Taltos went so....bizarre. I was really hoping she would do more with Julien, he was such an interesting character. Have you read the latest in the Vampire Chronicles - Blackwood Farm? Very interesting way to incorporate Mona & Julien with the vampires.

OK, my favorite books....

The Vampire Lestat by Anne Rice (actually, most any of the Vampire Chronicles, but that one is my fav of those)

Gone With The Wind by Margaret Mitchell

Actually I think that's about it. I mostly read non-fiction and I don't re-read many of those. John Douglas is by far my favorite author of true-crime books, and I will re-read his books on occasion.

One of my most memorable books was It by S.King. I spent a summer reading it and by the end i felt like the characters were my friends.

I have been wanting to reread the vampire chronicles again from begining to end, all so.

I loved Julien too- he and and Stella were my favorite characters I wasn't happy with Lasher and Taltos either- bizarre is a good word to describe them. I only read those ones once, but I read The Witching Hour over and over. I'm currently just getting started on chapter 13- The Mayfair Witches Files.

I haven't read Blackwood Farm yet- I had just started Merrick when I decided to read The Witching Hour again

I love to read, so I have so many favorite books that are good friends. I think one of my most favorite is "The Hiding Place", by Corrie Ten Boom. It's a true story of two older Dutch sisters who are sent to a concentration camp by the Nazies for hiding Jews. It is such a powerful book.

My favorite first lines of any book are from "The Voyage of the Dawn Treader" by C.S. Lewis (The Narnia Series).

"There once was a boy names Eustace Clarence Scrubb, and he almost
deserved it."

Wow! So many Rice fans, But I'm included in that too, love Witches, and the Vampire chronicles too.. "Incarnations of Immortality" series by Piers Anthony is fantastic, especially the first book "On a Pale Horse" dealing with death personified.

You have to read the whole series to see how intricate all of the relationships are in "Incarnations". Green Eggs And Ham huh...I kinda liked the Foot Book too tho!

I really don't have an all-time favorite book, but I like the Earth's Children series by Jean M. Auel, which is about people living in prehistoric times. It always seems to take about 7 years before the next book in the series is published:

The Clan Of The Cave Bear
The Valley Of Horses
The Mammoth Hunters
The Plains Of Passage
The Shelters Of Stone...this is the latest book which I haven't read yet.

Melissa, I enjoy reading Anne Rice books too, and I thought The Witching Hour was really good.

I haven't read anything for awhile...once I start a book I cannot put it down until it's finished, and that can kind of get in the way of day-to-day life.

I love Sherri Tepper's books, Andre Norton and Jean Auel, among others.
