My friend found a baby kitten outside her backyard, she's pretty sure something happened to the mother. She brought him over to give to us (we're going to try and get in with the vet tomorrow)
The kitten has TONS of burrs which I've been slowly working on getting out. He is very small, and very skinny. He drank a little bit of water for me, but not interested in food. He seems very weak, but my older cats get along with him. They were trying to get the burrs out too, very gently.

What should I do until I can get him to the vet? Should I have food, water and the litterbox all very close to his bed? I've seen him walk but it's never very far. Oh and this is his picture below: how old would you say he is? He can fit perfectly in two hands.

My guess would be 8-10 weeks.

He may not recognize anything you give him as food, if he is feral. And he may have all sorts of illnesses; I'd be careful with exposing my cats to him.

Try giving him wet food, or, failing that, "kitten glop," the recipe for which you can find here with a search.

I cut a side off a thin cardboard puzzle box and filled it with litter, and put it next to his bed. He ate some of the kitten chow (that I watered and made mushy) and a few sips of water. He's been a bit more active, but I watch where he goes.
The cats sniff him from time to time but generally leave him alone.

Is this okay until tomorrow? I plan on sleeping not far from him, just in case the cats do get TOO curious and try and hurt him. But it hasn't happened in the two hours he has been here. I really hope he's okay, but I suppose I won't know until tomorrow.

You can only do what you can do. No one expects miracles.

Most adult neutered cats won't hurt a kitten. But there are exceptions, so you definitely want to protect him if possible. Putting him in a small, cozy room, such as a bathroom, is often a good idea and can protect your peace of mind. Also, that room is often easiest to clean in the whole house if the worst happens.

When putting a kitten in a bathroom, please makes sure the toilet seat stays down. I know of someone who lost a kitten that way. I won't even go there...

Please keep us posted. You are a quality person for taking this poor little orangy in.

Nothing like an orange kitten

What a beautiful little Red Boy. Bless your friend for rescuing him and giving him to you to nurse. Be sure to let us know how the vet trip goes.

The vet office has very weird hours they are only open from 12:30pm to 2:00pm, but we're going then. We tried to drive to a place in a bigger city but we've been having car trouble and decided, if we broke down on the way, it wouldn't help anyone. So hopefully they will see us in that small time frame.

I finally got him to eat some soft kitten food, and water. When he was done he had food all over his face
All I can do now is pray that he's going to be alright, maybe he just has worms from being a feral cat.
