How to care for hot spots

My cat has a hot spot she keeps licking, on the middle of her back. The Vet examined it last week and said if she keeps irritating it, we would have to put one of those plastic cones on her to stop her. She absolutely hates those. Is that the only way to keep a cat from getting to a hot spot? Or are there any alternatives? I just figured it wouldn't hurt to ask.

Thanks so much.

Unfortunately it looks like she has earned herself the cone. You can not put a spray or a cream on the hot spot because for the hot spot to go away it needs to dry up. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news : (

She'd probably hate it just as much, and you'd need to give her a break and keep the hot spot dry/clean/let it air out, but you could try a t-shirt of some kind.

I would ask about this ... I know a few cats who have this done and it works for them...

What are the spots from? Did you get any anti itch meds ?

Wow...the thought of a t-shirt would never have occured to me...I will certainly find out about that, thanks so much! The only time I'd imagine that would really annoy her, if when she tries to lick herself and she licks the t-shirt...but I feel it would not be as traumatic as the cone...thank you! You are all so helpful!

Oh yes, and she was given chlorpheniramine, not sure if I'm spelling that right, for the itch...so I hope that will help relieve her, too.
