I was at my friend's house this past Saturday, and Sunday her son came down with Viral Meningitis. I am curious to know if this can be passed to cats, especially cats with lowered immune systems. I am guessing no, because most human viruses can't, can they? I have no clue. Any help is so appreciated.

There was supposedly someone reporting that H1N1 infected a cat, and because it's been through so many species already that could have some possibility.
But generally viruses are very much host specific - rabies being one of the few that are not.

Any pets should be fine. I hope no other humans in the family come down with it though and that the boy recovers quickly.

I've been washing my hands like crazy. The son is doing better but is up and down. He should be alright. I was more worried for Boo, didn't know if it was contagious or not. I hope I don't get it either but pretty sure I won't (Haven't been sick in over 2 years knock on wood!!
) Thank you
