Pelosi: Ethics Are Overrated

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is sending private signals that she is willing to support watering down the powers of the Office of Congressional Ethics, the panel she and fellow Democrats created last year to serve as a new watchdog on congressional misconduct.

Susan Crabtree of The Hill newspaper reports on a meeting late in May between members of the Congressional Black Caucus and Speaker Pelosi. The Speaker heard a litany of complaints about the OCE's aggressiveness and its public release of documents that reflected badly on the reputations of members. Both Ms. Pelosi and House Whip Jim Clyburn indicated sympathy with the complaints, agreeing that the ethics office's operations had resulted in unintended consequences.

Shortly after the meeting, Ohio Democrat Marcia Fudge and 19 other members of the Congressional Black Caucus introduced legislation to reduce the office's powers to investigate wrongdoing. No one expects the legislation to go anywhere, but it may be a stalking horse for an attempt to change the House's rules late this year should Democrats retain control after November.

The Office of Congressional Ethics, which is largely composed of former members, was created in 2008 by Democrats who vowed to establish a more ethical Congress. As Speaker Pelosi said at the time: "We have come here to drain the swamp. The New Direction Congress will for the first time open the ethics process up to the participation of our fellow citizens, which will make this institution more accountable." Now it would appear that the OCE has become an inconvenience or threat to some Members.

What a joke Pelosi is.

2008 - Who was President back then?

Ha ha ha ha, oh yeah, that "New, Ethical Congress" is working out really well for you Nancy.

This is the same Congressional Black Caucus that made the false accusations against the Tea Party People.

Remember that? During the Healthcare Rally in Washington the weekend the Senate voted on the Bill?

When the Congressional Black Caucus felt the need to go out among the Tea Party protesters (instead of the usual way they get to the Capital, through the tunnels) and they made sure their aides had digital camera's and video equipment because they were hoping against hope that the Tea Party would do something racist and they could get it on film?

Remember that?

Then when nothing happened, the Congressional Black Caucus lied through their teeth and said a guy spit on them, which turned out to be a total lie.

Then they said they were called the "N" word and that turned out to be a lie too.

All the video and audio equipment and it was SCOURED for "N" words and nothing, nada, zip.

And the guy they said was spitting on them was, simply, yelling and has his hand cupped around his mouth and one of the members of the Congressional Black Caucus walked right in front of yelling guy and got a little spittle on him.

What a joke. And now the Ethics board has Ethics complaints against the "above reproach" Congressional Black Caucus so they want to "relax the rules".

So typical for Congress, it isn't even a surprise any more.

Ahh! So, the absense of proof IS proof of absense!

If it can't be independently proven, then it's a total lie! Got it.

I'm going to mark this on my calendar.

The point was made that the Congressional Black Caucus was above reproach. Now we find out that there are ethics violations that they are whining about and they must "relax the rules."

But as far as your post, you mark it down.

Just the fact that a member of the CBC says someone yelled the "N" word at him doesn't mean it happened. It was just a ploy by the Democrats to make the Tea Party look bad IMO.

And there IS proof the white guy didn't spit on him.
