Cat behaving really strange

Hi all im new here

Im currently 6 months pregnant and one of my cats has been behaving very out of the ordinary.

I have two female cats and i let them outside a few weeks ago and since then one of them has totally flipped and keeps attacking the other. They are house cats but they were on leads which i tied to garden poles just to get some fresh air.
The one thats doing the attacking is the one thats really close with me and is very protective of me and im wondering if this is why she is attacking the other because there might be a different smell to her now and she might think that she is trying to get to me. I know this sounds like a crazy idea but im really at my wits end trying to sort something out with them.
I really love my cats and do not want to get rid of any of them but i have no idea what to do.

I mean its not daily they are fighting but when it happens it scares the crap outta me cos it sounds so violent. Usually throughout the day the one closest to me will paw and hiss/growl at the other. Im just dreading if they really do some damage to each other.

Has anyone else experienced anything like this? And did it go away after you had the baby?

Try some feliway plug ins. They are a stress reliever for cats. Something must have happened when they were outside.

I would in the future, stay with them outside. Cats are funny creatures. Another cat may have come through the yard and your cat may have picked up that smell.

Give the Feliway a try.

This is called displaced aggression. Something scary happened outside, and now the one cat associates the other cat with that something.

Never EVER tether a cat outside, whether you are there watching or not, but especially if you are not.

A cat's first defense is to flee. She can't flee if she is tied up and will panic, and can injure herself very badly. Plus, since she can't get away, she is a sitting duck for any danger around.

The feliway plug in diffusers are what I would recommend also, and you might need some rescue remedy too.

Keep the cats separated and treat them as newbies, and go through a two week introduction period. Which includes exchanging smells by rubbing towels on both, putting the towels under their food dishes so they associate the other cat's smell with good things, separate litter boxes, supervised integrations.

You can also try the vanilla trick, which is putting a dot of cooking vanilla (not perfume) on the nose and root of tail of both cats so they smell the same.

Welcome to TCS, and congratulations on your upcoming new baby! Keep us posted.

I would also suggest the Feliway, it is a great product! I have heard of many cats who's behaviour changes when the owner is pregnant. I firmly believe that they can sense the changes. Give your girls lots of love, attention and reassurance because they'll need it when a new little one is demanding most of your time. Good luck!
