I'm hoping someone here will have an idea of what is going on! Saturday night after LO was in bed DH and I lit our firepit and roasted hot dogs and marshmallows. Neither of us wore bug repellent, both had on shorts and sandals. I didn't really notice any bugs, except the 200 we let in the house from coming in and out.

But Sunday I noticed some small red bumps on my feet. Now I'm finding more on my arms, legs and hands! They haven't swelled up like the typical mosquito bites do but they do itch and have a clear fluid in them. They are small, I guess a little bigger than a mustard seed. Maybe twice the size of one. Don't know how else to say it.

So does that sound like bug bites to you? I feel like I'm noticing more and more of them, but I haven't been back outside and Thank the Lord I've not noticed any on the baby if something is in the house!

DH came home today and his are more swollen and red from scratching/sweating I think. He actually took some benadryl because the itching was irritating him so. (You know how once you scratch the more you itch.)

Didn't you have a crazy hives reaction not to long ago? Hopefully this isn't a strange round two of that.

We have fire ants here. They bite like that and make a pus filled sore. They itch like mad. Try sitting or the edge or in the bathtub in water as hot as you can stand it. The hot water will take the "fire" out and make them stop itching.

Something similar happened to me last year. I was weeding in the flower bed and didn't notice anything unusual. But after going back into the house a few hours later, I was covered pretty much from head to toe with tiny little bites, surrounded by inflamed skin. It looked bad, especially after I got out of the shower.

And itch! Geez, whatever it was had a nasty, nasty itch. We were trying to figure out if I did get bitten by chiggers or something, or if I only got bitten by something a few times and got a reaction to the bites. It lasted a good week to ten days or so. I ended up using a cortisone cream and it didn't do much to help the itch at all.

Bugs love me... If there is a bug around, it WILL come find me.

I hope it's nothing serious and it goes away soon. I think you should use bug repellent next time. When we sit out at night I always use bug repellent. Could it be any type of poison ivy or other plants you weren't aware of?

Thanks for the replies! I looked up the chigger bites and since DH has been scratching some of his look like them; but mine are much smaller. And since we both have it I didn't think it was an allergic reaction, though my hands are broken out with something else.
I don't touch plants, but maybe something that was on our firewood that became airborne in the smoke? I know poison ivy can travel like that. Chiggers seems to be the most likely culprit since I read you don't typically feel the bites right away.

You know I was about to put on the spray but decided I didn't want to wear it to bed; so I thought I'd go get it if I noticed bugs biting me. Well bad idea huh? Usually I wear long pants and sneakers or some better shoe like that. Long sleeves too. I know better now!
