My kitty had a UTI last week. He is a 4 year old boy....I was feeding him Nutro Maxx cat....he was on Nutro Naturals indoor formula and never had a UTI with that so I switched him back to that.

Any food recs you can give me? I live out in the boonies so it seems like Nutro is the way to go for hard food but what about wet food? Friskies or Fancy feast?

He was on a antibotic for a week....he seems A LOT better....not near as grumpy he wouldn't even let me pet him before and he was hissing at me. Now he is playful and seems to be cured.....but he is still licking down there more than normal so I am going to call the vet tomorrow and see if he thinks he needs more medicine.

Thanks for the help and food recs!

I would not give any of those food to a cat with uti's
My cat had one every 2 months and my sisters is stuck on C/D because anything else does not help.

The fact that he is still licking bothers me. My Beeba is also on CD from the vet. May well be for quite a long time.

UTI's have to be treated with the appropriate food. Ask your vet. Don't just try different foods. You could be doing more harm than good.

I used C/D wet and dry with one of mine that had a UTI, too. Well, technically it was crystals - because he was partially blocked from them I don't want to risk it. He's had no issues since he's been on the food. And really this is what I suggest you go with, and certainly until he has a few repeated urinalysis come back clean.

You have to be careful what foods you use if you do not want to use script ones. Some on here have had luck with OTC urinary track foods... But I think purina may be the only one that makes them?
If you want to use any friskies, as say in rotation because of your location away from stores, at least start flipping the cans over and read the labels. I recommend you stay under 2.0% max ash and stay away from the pate type entirely. They do make a special diet with low ash and magnesium.
Start checking labels on any wet you use.

Talk with your vet... as the dry your feeding is one of the UTI certified foods OTC.,..

I gave s/d to Ku Ku for the first few weeks, then switched to c/d(both wet & dry), all prescribed by my vet. She's been on c/d ever since.
UTI for male cat should be treated with extra caution. If he's still cleaning himself after meds are finished, I'd definitely talk to vet for check-up.
