Many of you will remember my beloved Lucy.
Several times in the last 5 years she was critically ill, once being in the vets for 4 days. Thanks to all the prayers and healing thoughts all of you sent for her, plus good vet care and a lot of determination, TLC from us and Lucy's own fighting spirit, she pulled through.
Sadly, last Saturday 5th June, Lucy was PTS.
She had been going downhill for quite a considerable time. Just before Christmas we knew the writing was on the wall and it was only a matter of time.
Last week, Lucy's health deteriorated rapidly. We both knew it was time to say "goodbye". On Saturday she gave me the look that only those of us who have loved a cat know only too well and so, I had to do the last kindness for her.
She was PTS by our kind and loving vet, Amy while I cradled Lucy's head and stroked her, with my husband stroking her too. The end was very, very peaceful.
I had Lucy for 14 beautiful years. She was given to me as a one night emergency foster after having suffered appalling cruelty.
She was always a indoor car because the cruelty left her permanently crippled.
We loved Lucy with all our hearts and I know she loved us in return.
I miss her not waking me in the morning by pulling my hair or if that didn't work, hooking her claws in the inside of my nose and pulling me up (you can't ignore that). I miss her not coming under the duvet at night and cuddling up to me or my husband. I miss watching her put the dogs in their place.
Life is not the same without her.
It will take me a long time to get over her passing as she was such a huge part of our lives but I also remember her with love and a lot of very happy memories (sometimes not so happy).
I will always remember a little cat who's indominatable spirit always brought a smile to my face, even during some of my darkest days, like when my son was diagnosed with kidney failure (he's had his transplant now and is finally healthy) and when my husband had a major heart attack and it was touch and go. Lucy seemed to understand and never left my side.
Lucy was approximately 22 years old. A grand old age for a grand old lady.
My darling Lucy. At Rainbow Bridge now. Until we meet again. I will always love you Juicy Lucy. I miss you so much Lucy. Life will never be the same for us again.
We had a few funny names for Lucy including Juicy Lucy, Juicy Luce, The Loose Puss, Madam and She-Who-Must-be-Obeyed.
