Hi I am new here with a tiny little kit we found on our wheel barrel in our garage on Monday.
My husband shoo'd away the mama before closing the garage door for the night on Sunday with no idea she had just dropped off a baby.
We see this mama cat all the time roaming the neighborhood, but sadly, have not seen her since Sunday night when my husband found her in our garage.
We were having some bad weather here over the weekend, major storms, tornado like activity around us, so I am sure she was trying to get her baby to a safe place.
We discovered the baby Monday morning crying and put two and two together.
We tried to leave the baby in the wheel barrow and opened the garage back up, but the baby fell out of the wheel barrow! We did not think it would get out!
SO we put it in a box and brought it in to check it out called our vet (we have dogs).
They told us to put the baby back out in the evening in the box and see if the mama would come back for her baby.
We did this from 6-9 pm, but the wacky weather we were having had temps dropping to the high 40's over night and it was getting cold.
So we brought kitty in.
Now "Kittee" is here with us and we have been scouring the web educating ourselves and using the kitty glop.
We go see the vet tomorrow.
Kittee is probably 2-3 weeks old.
Kittee's umbilical cord fell off late night Monday after I was rubbing her tummy to get her to go potty after feeding (I know I keep saying *her*-but have no idea!). Her ears are still tucked but her eyes are open and she purrs like a full cat house! She tries to walk around but is very wobbly.
Is eating well and sleeping lots. She is urinating for me when I stimulate her. We have has some tiny tiny poos nothing solid..not diarrhea either.
We made a kitty pouch and she is on me most of the day.
She sleeps all night and never mews unless I touch her, she wakes and wants to eat.
I guess I am wondering should I wake her thru the night and feed her?

Yes. You need to feed her somewhere around every 2-3 hours. As she gets older she can go farther between feedings. I'm sure some of the people who have hand raised kittens will give you plenty of advice. My babies have their mama.

I've never raised an orphan kitten but it sounds like you are doing a really great job so far. I do agree she needs to eat every 2 hours like a baby so you will have to wake her. Usually the mom's movement wakes them and she will clean them to stimulate them to make them potty and then they eat. At least that's what my mom does. Then they just sleep. She sounds a lot like my kittens and they are 2 1/2 weeks old so she's around that age. Good luck with her. You sound like a great momma.

Check out the Caring for Orphan Kittens thread by A&A'sMommy on this forum. Lots of info there.

My daughter is raising 3 orphans from 3 days old. They are now 9 weeks and are wonderful little kittens.

You have a good heart to help this poor little thing. I hope you have got through the storms ok.

If the cord just fell off I would be thinking they are a bit younger. BUT One I hand raised a few years back lost his cord and it got stuck by a bit of blood or what not and seemed like it was still attached-I didn't mess with it. I would do at least one feed in middle of night. I wouldn't trust a kitten to be ok till it was 3-4 weeks old then do a right before bed and soon as you wake feed. My kittens all were eating when one demanded it-I figured if ones hungry and asking chances are by time I go in and take the one out the others will be interested too
Also if you put in a few stuffed animals and she wobbles over them chances are you will pee a bit on them to-I was wondering how it could be that a 3 days old single kitten was not peeing while I tried to stimulate him.

You've found the BEST place to get all your questions answered. While I've never raised a baby from that young, I've witnessed the group effort to raise a bottle baby here on this site. Feel free to ask any questions and share any concerns you might have about Kittee's development. You'll find tons of help and experience. Bless you for taking this little girl into your home and heart.
