Ok, so for those who don't know. I had 3 female cats and 2 dogs that were mine. I have since found 1 female and 3 male cats and 1 male dog (all were kittens/puppy when I found them) out wandering the streets. I have been trying to find homes for the 5 extras that I have brought in. I have also tried to turn them into the local no kill shelter but I was told they couldn't take the kittens because they had too many already. They wouldn't take the puppy because he is a pit bull mix and so he's unadoptable (nobody would want him, they said). To make a long story shorter I failed to get the female rescue spayed in time and she had a litter of 3 kittens 5 weeks ago. So going back to my 3 original females. I got 2 from the pound when they were around 5 weeks old. I had them spayed (without ever having kittens). The 3rd I adopted from a local humaine society and all of her paperwork says she was spayed (I still have all the paperwork they gave me). 3 weeks ago she rolled over and I noticed her nipples had turned pink. I called the shelter and found out that they were told she was spayed when they got her so nobody knows for sure if she really was or not. I have looked for a scar and haven't found one but have been hoping that maybe the new kittens in the house has caused her to go through a "False Pregnancy". I did take her to the vet but they said they couldn't "feel" any kittens but that she could be. I chose not to get an ultrasound because she was stressed over the vet visit and didn't want to put her through it. I am pretty possitive at this point that she truly is pregnant. Her belly is poking out to the sides and is hard (she's been a little chubby since I got her), it used to be soft and mushy. I can feel what I think is her enlarged uterus when I feel her belly (I can't tell like seperate kittens). It feels like Baby Girl's belly was before she had her babies. I don't feel any movement from kittens but that should be next week.

I forgot to add. My vets office has 3 vets and the one that checked this cat (Ashes) and said she couldn't feel kittens when I took her in to see if she was pregnant also checked the other cat (Baby Girl) and couldn't feel any kittens with her either. Baby Girl doesn't get stressed going to the vets so I had an ultrasound done to confirm her pregnancy. Ashes was stressed and she doesn't like being held and they would have had to hold her down for the ultrasound. I din't think that it was worth putting her through that. I also didn't want her sedated.

Oh my, that must be so frustrating! That is a lot of animals to have to have all at once, but good on you for doing it. At least at this point, you know a bit about kittens, right? I wonder if there is a way to make the place you got her from spay her/help pay for the kittens? They shouldn't have told you she was spayed if she wasn't

They have already said that they will pay to have her spayed. I think I will get them to take the kittens and get them spayed/neutered and adopted when they are 12 weeks old. I have had such a hard time getting the ones I found adopted that I'm just not sure I would be able to get them adopted.

Oh, just in case if anyone is wondering. I have had all the animals (except Baby Girl and T. Rexx) spayed/neutered. Baby Girl will be going as soon as her kittens are weaned and T. Rexx (pit bull mix) is going next week. The male kitten can't be done until he's 4-5 months and the females 5-6 months. That just when my vet will do them.

When I took gabby in I clearly felt sacs and her nipples were pink and longer. She was normal sized-not fat or thin. She had 1 kitten in a previous litter. The vet told me she felt pregnant but how many she was unsure. She delivered 6 weeks later. If shes not pregnant I would worry about her uterus being infected. When they are spayed very young and by a good vet there is hardly any scar but sometimes you can feel it with your finger(either a gap in the fat or some scarring)

I find it sad about the pit pup. My guy has his issues(pees from happiness is a good one..ugh) but for most part if hes walked hes great to be around. I find it sad a shelter would take a cat in with no proof of spay and pass it off as being done. Is there anyway they can call the owners up off the intake forms to find out what vet they used?

I have a friend that used to breed American Bobtails and she told me (when I was second guessing Carly being pregnant) that cat's nipples do not pink up unless they are pregnant. My vet had a hard time feeling Carly's kittens when she was around 4 weeks so that might have been the issue there.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking (they just couldn't feel them). My vet said the same, the only thing that makes the nipples turn pink is pregnancy. I have to take Baby Girl in to the vet today (I think she may have mastitis). So I will take Ashes in again. I guess we'll see.

What clues do you have that she has that? I'm worried Carly will develop something with her nursing and I won't know.

The nipples on the left side were really red and they were really full compared to the other side. Anyway the vet said that everything is normal. The kittens teeth have made her nipples really sore and raw. They apparantly are reaaly full because she's making them nurse on the other side.
