Poll - BP Oil Spill Response Rated Worse Than Katrina

By more than a 2-to-1 margin, Americans support the pursuit of criminal charges in the nation's worst oil spill , with increasing numbers calling it a major environmental disaster. Eight in 10 criticize the way BP's handled it – and more people give the federal government's response a negative rating than did the response to Hurricane Katrina.

From ABC News yet. I'm shocked.

50 days and counting Barack.

Take the containment strategy of barrier berms. These temporary sand islands block the flow of oil into fragile wetlands and marshes. Berm construction requires approval from the Corps of Engineers and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Louisiana officials asked permission on May 11. They have yet to hear back. The feds are conducting a review as oil washes ashore.

The federal government was even slower on the question of dispersants, chemicals used to break up the oil and hasten its evaporation from the surface of the water. On May 8, Louisiana sent a letter to BP and the EPA begging BP not to use dispersants below the surface of the water. Subsurface use of dispersants keeps oil slicks from forming. But when it doesn't come to the surface to evaporate, the oil lingers below, gets into underwater currents, and puts at risk fisheries that supply a third of America's seafood.

On May 13, EPA overruled the state and permitted BP to use dispersants 4,000 feet below the surface. Then, a week after BP released 55,000 gallons of dispersants below the surface, EPA did an about-face, ordering BP to stop using the dispersant and to "find a less-toxic" one. Louisiana officials found out about this imprecise guidance in the Washington Post. BP refused, EPA backed off, and Louisiana's concerns about their marine fisheries remain.

Not everybody was pleased with President Obama's uncharacteristic line on the Today Show, spoken in the pre-school hours Tuesday morning, that he wants some "a** to kick" in the Gulf oil crisis.
Well who wants to defend Barack for his handling of the Oil Spill? The second link is an awesome article that outlines the series of missteps. Team Obama are rookies and that hope and change is ruining the Gulf Coast and the Eastern Seaboard will be next.

The poll numbers speaks for themselves. And his little a** remark is the just the icing on the cake, the man doesn't know how to be President. Why the heck did you guys elect this fool?

You have to read this editorial. The Washington Examiner sums it up precisely!

He is way out of his league. Here's a man who's executive experience before Jan. 2009 was as "community organizer" in the political cesspool called Chicago. And you want him to act like a President and make decisions? Dream on..........

The Deepwater Horizon is not the only well leaking oil into the Gulf of Mexico for the last month.

A nearby drilling rig, the Ocean Saratoga, has been leaking since at least April 30, according to a federal document.

While the leak is decidedly smaller than the Deepwater Horizon spill, a 10-mile-long slick emanating from the Ocean Saratoga is visible from space in multiple images gathered by Skytruth.org, which monitors environmental problems using satellites.
Oh, GREAT, ANOTHER oil well is leaking.

Then the head honcho comes out today and admits he has not had ONE conversation with Obama since this oil spill.

But Barack has it all under control.
Where Barack, in an alternate universe?

As an ardent defender of Obama up to this point, I'll be the first to admit the handling of this situation has been disappointing*.

* And when I say "Disappointing", I mean I could puke coat hangers over the cowardice and incompetence being bandied about.

From my link above:

Quote:
Within three days, Obama and his senior aides were warned that the spill could exceed the in environmental damage caused by the Exxon Valdez wreck in 1989.

Despite these warnings, over the next two months Obama attended Democratic fundraisers, played golf, hosted basketball and football teams at the White House and delivered commencement speeches. Two weeks passed before he could be bothered to go to Louisiana.

That about covers it.

I'm glad you are seeing the light.

Keycube you are a very fair person.

I have held back for 50 days for a few reasons.

The undeserved (I thought) trouncing Bush received over Katrina
and two
Everyone deserves some time to react and get going.

But 50 days.............

I just want to commend Gov. Jindal. I can see the desperation in this man and how he is trying to get help for his state.

I have a new respect for him. And if possible, less for Obama.

I agree. This president doesn't have a clue. He knows how to bash someone else. Now he is in the hot seat.

I guess if I was living in New Orleans when Katrina hit, I might say it's handling was worse, but if I was a duck in the middle of this oil spill, I would argue that point.

As far as Obama's role (or lack thereof), I'm disapointed too.

We think this whole thing is bad now?? We are now entering into hurricane season. Just wait until a hurricane moves into the gulf. Is there a way I can get off this planet....now!! I am sick of people and the excuses they make for their damn mistakes. Any oil company drilling in deep water should be prepared for accidents such as this. If you are not prepared for the worst case scenario, then do not drill!! I understand accidents can and do happen, but it just seems to me that this thing could have been stopped or at least slowed down, a long time ago.

We put a man on the moon and brought him back safely over 40 yrs. ago, but we can't figure out how to stop a deep water oil leak? I'm perplexed. If we can't anticipate an accident and figure out how to fix it, then we shouldn't be drilling there.

I still want to know when this derrick was erected, who gave the approval to BP to drill in our waters, who inspected it for safety, and when.

Here's an interesting read from Rolling Stone.
