Okay since smokie has been throwing up I brought the water dish upstairs to the kitchen where I could monitor him drink water. And normally he would be there twice a day for a few seconds drinking water.

Now today since I've given him the new antibiotic I've seen him at the water dish about 4 times or so. Not very long probably 20 seconds or so.

The first time he was there about 10 seconds, then after he was there for about another 15 seconds or so but that was after I gave him the anti-biotic. Then for a few hours he was resting around. Then about 12:30 he was there for about another 10-15 seconds drinking. Then 10 minutes later or so he was back drinking for another 10-15 seconds.

Should I be concerned that he's drinking too much water now? I mean the doctor said that his kidney results were normal. So maybe he was a little dehydrated and is starting to feel better so he's drinking more water?

I was giving him canned food to see if it would help his stomach issues but didn't. So could it be the mix of some wet and mostly dry foods? I gave him the last of the wet cat food this morning. But he's also been eating the dry food too.

Or is it because I brought the water bowl upstairs? I've noticed the other cats will drink twice or so during the day.

I'm going to be worrying about him for a while even though I know the doctor said his blood test results were normal.

I'm not certain... but I can tell you that I used to have just one water bowl in my kitchen, and a few years ago decided to put one in my hallway just for kicks. Well... both mine drink way more since I put that bowl in the hallway.

Okay. I wasn't sure if it was because I moved it into the kitchen or if something else was going on. I know that the vet took blood and everything's fine. But ever since the scare with smokie I just panic about everything now.

I did call the vet. He said that cat's should drink more than a cup of water a day. Most of the other cats sit there and drink a little. He's the one that I saw there 4 times when before he would be there maybe twice in a whole day.

I did put the bowl back down stairs. He's on antibiotics and the vet said that if he drinks too much water then he can wash a lot of the antibiotics out of his system.

Not to diss your vet's opinion, but this just sounds stupid to me. Humans are encouraged to drink MORE water when on antibiotics to insure that they are flushed out of the kidneys. Perhaps the meds are making them thirsty. I wouldn't worry too much.
