(I'm still a little scared to post her name in case these people do an internet search)
How about you give her a special nickname here in the forum so we all can talk about her safely?

Do not give this woman or whatever she is another thought!!! The cat is so lucky that you came along and I'm sure if you asked her she would say YOU are her mommy! The first house we bought came with a cat, too. She was a very shy calico who always wanted to come inside but once she was in she would have a fit to get back out. I eventually had to have her put down because of advanced problems (she was going blind) related to leukemia. I cried my eyes out. She was really a sweet cat although she was a little feral at times. I hate people who don't care about animals!

I wouldn't feel guilty at all about keeping her! First of all, even if the were the best owners ever, she's been with you that long and she feels like she's home. It would stress her out to move her. So you have that, plus the fact that they obviously were not good owners, because good owners wouldn't leave their pet behind.

Well, she has two nicknames. My husband who has a very sarcastic sense of humor lovingly calls her "Bad Ronald". However, I realize that that nickname doesn't really make much sense to most people because it's in reference to a 1970s film that hardly anyone has ever seen. I mostly call her pork chop. She has a lot of hair on her cheeks and they are like mutton chops and somehow
I got pork chop out of mutton chops. I don't really know why, I have a strange mind and one day I just greeted her with "hello little pork chop" and it has seemed to stick from there. Anyway, here is a picture of her

I'm so sorry to hear about your calico, but it sounds like she got lucky to have you as an owner. My first cat and first pet is only 6 years old and thankfully I haven't had to deal with one of my babies dying yet. I know that eventually it will happen, but I can't imagine how painful it is going to be. I think I will be crying for months straight.

Kudos on you for keeping her!

And yes, I thought it was crazy too. The only thing I could figure is she really is a little bit slow, and doesn't understand like fearing things, like if you tell her "No!" she doesn't really get it. You see the wheels going around in her head, but it doesn't really sink in. She is an extremely sweet cat and EXTREMELY vocal, so probably they got her declawed and didn't fix her - because indoor girls don't spray, right? *rolls eyes* - because they didn't want her tearing up the furniture - *raaaaaaaar*. Or they got rid of her because she IS so extremely loud and vocal, and it was made worse by her going into heat. I don't understand people. I felt bad about not checking her for a microchip when I adopted her, but then when I saw the signs later, I didn't feel bad anymore. They should have taken care of their cat the right way in the first place and then they never would have lost her, and that includes spaying her!!!

Yes, I think the fact that they didn't spay her is an indication that they weren't very responsible or understood the responsibility of having a cat. Even if they were going to keep her in doors that's still a big risk. I'm glad she has a good home with you. By the way I love vocal kitties. Both of my girls are big talkers. I'm crazy and talk back to them. My husband always grumbles and says he has too many females in the house yapping.

I just wanted to say, don't you feel guilty and don't you waste one more second feeling guilty! You go love on that kitty! Thank God that cat found you and your loving home, who knows what could've happened. Shame on those people, coming by 11 months later!?! Teary eyed!! I'll be I'll never understand some people. Good gracious.

anyway, hugs to you and your kitties!~!

Pork Chop looks like a dear sweet kitty. I love her Secret Stripes. And her expression says she is full of personality. Imagine abandoning such a special girl. Disgusting.
