First, the sad inevitability:

"The federal government is definitely not considering nuking its way out of the Gulf oil spill crisis, despite some people's belief that it may be the best remaining option..."It's crazy," one senior official tells the New York Times."

Regarding the relief wells in the Gulf:
http://www.nola.com/news/gulf-oil-sp...n_drillin.html
"The company appears to be making progress. Spokesman Graham MacEwen said Friday that the first relief well has now reached 12,090 feet below the floor of the rig, 5,000 feet from the sea floor.
BP interrupted drilling last week to install a blowout preventer, the safety device that's supposed to seal a well in an emergency, but which failed to do so on the main well.
The second relief well, MacEwen said, is 8,650 feet below the floor of the rig."

Yeah, that's great. But it's taking too damn long. The fact is that it takes less than 1,000 feet of burial to safely contain a 1 kiloton nuclear explosion (you'll have to take my word on that, I'll be damned if I can find the reference), sooooo...there's almost no likelihood if infringing on the oil bearing area and causing some catastrophe with causing secondary blowout, nor of contaminating the ocean/atmosphere.
It seems perfect, and by the sounds of things, the option is gaining some steam in the media in light of BP's comically repetitive failure. Why are there such cowards running this whole circus? Aliens are looking down at us laughing harder than ever before.
I mean, just look at this video. It's so beautifully perfect, it makes me cry. Yes, there are logistical differences between this and the Gulf problem, blah blah...)

"Shock and Awe"? Awesome marketability. Go USA! Defeat terror! Bomb everything in sight! But taking a calculated "risk" and potentially saving so much life and preventing further eco-disaster? Why, only a madman would try such a thing!!
Sometimes people make me puke.
