Well... this is a new one for me. My male persian has always had chronic ear problems with yeast, infections, etc... We've been dealing with it for years and after a few days on the meds it always clears up. This time around, there seems to be a strange rattling noise coming from his ear. Kind of hard to describe, but I've never heard this before. It is definitely a rattling/crackling noise. I not only hear it when he shakes his head, but I even hear it when he yawns. We went to the vet yesterday and she was not able to find anything. He is acting fine, and doesn't seem to be bothered by it at all. I can rub the ear, touch it, put drops in it, so he's not in any pain. Just very bizarre... I was wondering if anybody else has experienced this. I thought maybe it was a buildup of fluid from the ear drops he is currently on, but he has been on ear drops on and off for 8 years now and I've never experienced this.

I never heard of this so will be watching this thread closely. Mazy cat has chronic ear problems.

If if continues you might want to look into seeing a specialist.

Keep us posted.

When my dog used to get ear infections, sometimes they were so bad that I could hear a rattling noise whenever she shook her head. Not sure about yawning. Hope you find out the cause!

Nothing new with the crackling in the ears... Simba just finished up 7 days of Otomax so I'm going to give it a few days and see what happens. I'm not hearing it as often. Some evenings I hear it, and some I don't. The vet mentioned since he did have ear surgery the anatomy of his ear has changed. So... I'll be monitoring my baby carefully. Always an adventure with Simba
