Now my vet
6 months into cipro and pepcid wants an endoscopy 1200$ and
ultrasound 400ish$
I am elderly and disabled and even though we have trupanion insurance
I am super poor
I am wondering will these diagnostics cure him
I was told the pancreatits was incurable just treatable

does anyone know
it does not make sense to put us through this if it does not resolve his malady?

I would seek a second opinion instead of spending that sort of money. My cat was diagnosed with Pancreatis and we are managing it with steriod shots and some pain killers. She gets a shot when she appears to be hesitant to eating which has been about 2-3 weeks between shots. I also give her Buprenex for a couple of days when she gets her shot.

This so far has been a good therapy for us since the cat went from 8lbs 1 oz to 8lbs 12 oz in the last couple of months.

I was originally told that chronic pancreatitis was not curable
why would they want to do an enoscopy and biopsy if there is no cure???????????????????????????????????????????????????????

A lot of things aren't 'curable' but can be managed. Diabetes in cats(or humans for that matter) can't be cured but can be manged medically. CRF can't be cured but there are supportive measures the help. FLUTD is not curable but manageable. Herpes in any species can't be cured but there are measures that can be taken to make it not flair as often. There is no cure for FeLV but it has to be known so I know not to get another cat that is negative. Mental illness also can't be cured but there are medications that can at least make you somewhat normal or totally normal but you will always have a mental illness. If the cat has this it needs to be known even if it can't be 'cured.' As the above person said it can be managed.

That said, get a second opinion. I wouldn't spend that kind of money without having a second person chime in and then I would make the decision. I couldn't afford that kind of money either so don't feel too bad, I think most pet owners couldn't, at least not all at once. I can't even get insurance for my pets since they are positive for feline leukemia. I don't want them to pay for major complications like cancer, I could just use a break on other stuff.

I will let him get the ultrasound He also needs the feline aids test and innoculation O.k.

however if the surgical intestinal and pancreas biopsies are not going to cure him I prefer not to stress him out

I love him as my boy and dont want to allow the vet establishment to investigate to our detriment

thanks for your reply
