cat stuff...

This is my first post on this forum and I have an issue. Our 1 year old spayed female is doing something kind of gross. This is the second time she has secreted something when my husband played with her. He payed a lot of attention to her in a relatively short period of time and she suddenly stops and starts licking her rear end with a foul odor. This happened twice now. Any ideas on WHY??

Sounds like she expressed her anal glands. Cats usually do this when they're in the litterbox. It smells pretty foul; Coal did this at the vet's a few months back when they tried to take his temp.

Our cat, a 4-year-old neutered male, plays "skunk" at the vet's, i.e. he sprays a foul-smelling, brownish liquid out of his anal glands. It sounds as if your cat got scared - maybe the play was too rough for her? - and did the same. A woman on another site told me her Persian, who didn't like brushing, did that every time he was brushed.

I dont think the play is too rough, the first time she did this my husband was just holding her and walking around showing her things and she would stretch her paw and kind of swat at stuff and then when he put her down there was stuff on his arm (yuck) but hes not sure what color. Just that it smelled. Then when I went to investigate, her tail looked wet and the fur around her butt as well. Its kind of gross but it doesnt happen a lot and now my husband is afraid to play with her!
