I'm at my sister's. Neighbor is having husband drama, and he did some stupid stuff, and took her phone. She came over to borrow a phone. My sister handed her hers, and she went home to make calls. It's been over an hour. My sister has a prepaid phone with 119 minutes on it. If she's been talking this whole time...

Seems rather rude to me. My sister has a very limited income. I can kinda see this neighbor using all the minutes, then coming over, handing the phone back with a laugh, and not offering to pay for the minutes.

I dunno, maybe not, but this is really bothering me for some reason tonight.

Gosh, yeah, I wouldn't have let her walk off with it either. That really stinks that she took it and I'm sure used all the minutes.

I'd make her pay for them. Go over and find her and say you only have so many minutes and you can't afford to lend it to her this long. Of course it would have been good to say this from the start-- something like "if you're going to use it for more than 5 minutes, you're going to have to pay me."

Well, it turned out fine. She brought the phone back and gave my sister money for the minutes.

It bothered ME because my sister is the type of person people walk all over. She's very nice and can't say no. She also can't confront people.

My little sister used to be like that... she could never confront anyone, she hated conflict, etc. etc. etc. I first started working on her when she moved in with me for a year after her stint in the Peace Corps. Whenever we ordered out for food I made HER make the call (she didn't even like to do that). She used to have a boyfriend who would call her constantly and she was on a limited number of minutes. Luckily, she's a penny-pincher, so she was finally able to stand up for herself, especially in matters where she would be charged something that was not her responsibility. She can now question bills at restaurants, her phone bills, etc. without any problem.

Now, I am also pretty shy and I hate to "rock the boat", but when I am overcharged for something I speak up!! I can't afford to pay for nothing, you know? My last job was working for my older sister in her home based business. She had to lay me off a while ago and still owed me $3000. I hate it enough to have to ask for money, but to have to do it with a family member makes it that much worse. We finally settled on an amount, but it had been well over a year since I was laid off.

I guess I believe that we are all thrown these little "life lessons" to help us grow and mature as humans.

While you feel bad and you are probably right as to what will happen, its your sister's phone. Stay out of it - let her learn the hard way. If the neighbor stayed and made a call or two, then that would be different.

I wouldn't have let her leave my sight with my phone. I also have the pay as you go plan so I would never give someone that phone knowing I didn't have many minutes on it. Your sister was being way too nice, I hope her neighbor didn't go over the minutes, that's just not right.

I can understand how you would be upset. I have a prepaid phone too, and I will not let anyone use it.
