What a pleasant experience! We took our 2 girls for wellness checks to a new to us vet. Callie, my 14 yr old who is in the beginning stages of CRF and has arthritis got a good report. The vet told me that she sees absolutely NO reason to give her the FVCRP shot since Callie never goes outside and is not exposed to other cats. She did get the distemper shot, though. The vet looked at her teeth, scraped a bit of tartar off with her fingernail, and said, "There's your dental cleaning!"
She told us to periodically take a q-tip dabbed in hydrogen peroxide and rub it along the gum line to prevent any gum issues. Even with Callie's kidney problems, she said to hold off on her bloodwork and wait until she's having a crisis to check it so we can know what's going on at the moment. She said to continue her food regimen and watch her for the "important changes" in eating, litter box habits, sleeping more and hiding.

For Hannah, my little Herpes kitty, she told me that she would NEVER recommend giving shots. She did say that if we were having a rabies epidemic then she'd consider giving her the rabies shot, but that wasn't likely to happen. She also gave Hannah a little dental cleaning and said everything else looked and sounded good.

Basically, this doctor's belief is that we should work on improving the health or our pets by nutrition first and then medical needs second. She also is of the opinion that we're over medicating our pets and vaccinating too often and that could turn out to do more harm than good.

And, she doesn't charge and arm & leg!! I liked her and will be going back!
