Curly fur?

Not sure where to put this question. My DLH Dusty has some interesting fur. She is a bi-color tuxedo pattern with a white face, feet and upper chest. The other color is charcoal gray with cinnamon colored highlights. But the really interesting part is that the fur on her lower belly and butt is curly! Very curly! Is this common? I've never seen it on any other cat.

"rex" or curly fur is recessive. All of the Rex cats were natural mutations. So you might have a spontanious mutation or part rex cat. I'd like to see the color as you mentioned blue/grey and cinnamon colors.

I would have thought many DLH's had curly fur on the chest, tummy and britches

IMO longhairs may have a wavy look, but not a true curly look. Since I bred and showed Rexes, I'm more familiar with the difference

A picture would help a lot to really determine if it was curly like a Rex or just a little wavy looking.

I'll see what I can do to take a pic of her really curly fur. It's just an oddity to me as I've never had a cat with curly fur anywhere before.

My mom's longhair female has curly fur, mostly on her tummy. She always looks ungroomed, but it's just the curliness. She was pregnant when we found her and none of her babies had curly fur. They were all shorthairs.

Sherman's fur is curly on his lower belly and wavy on his britches - they'd probably be curlier if he didn't groom them out like he does.

He also gets a little curl under each of his ears if not brushed.

I've seen the curls on the lower bellies of several DLH - including two I've had in the past. I think it's just how that fur grows in there, how the cat moves, and the way they groom that fur that makes it curl.

The hairs on Penny's underside are longish-- they appear almost wavy

And she's a DSH
