DH wants to grow decorative gourds, the cute little ones that you see in the fall. I don't want to give up a patch of my garden to do it, but the seed packet is staring me in the face so I have to do something.
Has anyone ever planted gourds in pots? I suppose I could use tomato cages to support the vines, and that might even keep the dreaded cucumber beetles away.
Any advice?

I don't blame you for not wanting to give up precious garden space, but I don't know how else to plant them. I hope somebody can help you.

When you do decide how to do it and you get vines and gourds, would you please post some pictures? I'd love to see them.

I have a pack of those here too. I was going to start them inside but didn't. I am going to try the large pot deal and some kind of support.

DH is very inventive....can't imagine what he will come up with!

I started the seeds indoors but haven't planted them outside yet. One would think with a 1/4 acre veg garden I would have room. I probably will plant them by the corn and the vines can ramble there. Otherwise I have room under my fruit trees that I was thinking it might work.

The only thing with planting in pots is one needs a really large pot as they can get quite a room system going. Plus depending on the size of the gourds the vines could get too heavy for the gourds.
