When I got to work this morning I saw a small cat luving up the bumpers of every car in the lot. I found him, a small un-neutered male, curled up in a ball by an unused gate. He was halfway friendly, let me get within 5-6 feet of him before running away. And eve then he stayed and was content to watch me so long as I did not enter his 'comfort zone'.

He seemed pretty healthy for a 'mura neko' aka street cat. He was thin but his coat looked in good shape, probably not more than a year old, could be 6 months.

Then I remembered I've been toting around some cheap cat food in the back of my car for months. Aya can't eat it 'cause she's on CD for urinary issues. I'm not ususally a fan of feeding strays as they just multiply around here or so it seems, but better than letting it go to waste, right? There are really no shelters or anything to give it to here either.

I brought back a can of tuna in aspic and opened in on the pavement in front of him. Most of teh cheap cat food ehre is liket hat just fish junk in juice or jello. He ran right over and ate it like he was starving. Even let me pet him briefly so long as he was eating.

I wish I could take this guy in, he's halfway friendly already. I suppose he's been getting handouts from someone. But last time I brought home a kitten Aya got violently agressive. And with my small apartment there is no where to separate them. I also had to pay out of my pocket about $200 in vet bills befor ethe only rescue group here would take him. They only take strays when they ahve a foster home available and after they've tested FELV/FIV neg.

I spoke to one of the teachers about him. She agreed that there were too many strays around. And said that because they congregate near here because of all the bento-ya-sans in the neighborhood (box lunch makers). Bet they are trash picking. One fo teh office ladied told me she sees them standing by the pot of lotus flowers out front drinking the water. I told her I bet that's what ahppened to the goldfish in there (they're missing) and she agreed the cats probably caught them.
