Getting ready to head out in a minute. I have Zoey in her travel crate (and she's going insane, she HATES that thing!) and off we go to the vets office. I'm rather nervous, though I know it's a procedure done daily and I know she'll be fine, but I can't help shake the nervousness. I hope everything goes well and I can't wait to pick her up later (after 3).

Just breathe and trust your vet. Maybe go see a movie to get your mind off of things and make the time pass more quickly? Don't worry!

Thanks. Actually I'd have no issues if I was going through my vet, but I'm doing it through a low cost spay/neuter clinic on the other side of town (I'm "donating" 20$ for the procedure and I paid an extra 20$ for pain medication for her). I just dropped her off about 30 mins ago and I walked in, put her kennel on the counter so I could fill out paperwork while trying to soothe her, this guy walks in goes "you have a female right?" I say yes and he just grabs the kennel and walks away without even letting me say bye to her!

Oh I know that position! ...or I will in a few weeks. I work over at a shelter and it's so much more affordable to get both of our kittens done at the "SNIP van"-- but my babies will be having surgery in a mobile clinic?? I know I'll be nervous.

Definitely take yourself out to a nice lunch and keep yourself busy for a few hours. I'll send her good thoughts!

Awwww. She'll be okay. I know it's like an assembly line....not really personal, but you can love 'er up like crazy when you get her home!

I know the feeling.

HollyHeart was spayed at a low-cost clinic a couple of months ago. The people there were very nice- and they called the next day to see how she was doing. But it was more "rush-rush" there than at the vets.

But- $50 including meds- instead of $300- that made it worthwhile. And Holly came home fine. In fact, the silly cat was running around playing ( I was finishing up a paper and the cat came over with a highlighter in her mouth) 2 hours after the proceedure.

that all has gone well and that you'll both have a restful night - I know how nervous we all get about our babies.

I know the feeling! Squeak had her spay done at a clinic for $40 last fall. She was fine after. There were no stitches to remove or anything. I think they used some sort of glue! Anyway, I opted to spend another $24 for her kitten shots.

I'm a big believer in low cost S&N clinics, and I believe that EVERY responsible cat owner should be able to afford the procedure, even if it means going without for a few days. If you can afford cat food, then you can afford a way to get your baby "fixed."

Thanks for all the good thoughts everyone. Zoey's home! I kept her in the kennel for about 2 hrs so she can relax and put the dogs in their kennel so they wouldn't bother her. I let her out just a minute ago, to see how she's doing, and she's doing the drunk wobble. Oddly enough, though, she climbed on my suitcase to try and get outside (through my window) but it's closed and she could barely make it to the window anyway. I picked her up for a quick second to check everything and she tried to bite me but caught her tounge instead so I just left her be. I know when I had my surgery I didn't really want to be bothered so I can imagine how she's feeling right now. I feel so bad but it was for the best. And I agree, there should be more low coast s/n places made available to families in need.

The one here does it for $5 for the spay/neuter, everything else is extra. I have had 4 females done there and they have all been fine. I need to get Nuts, Goldie Jr and Runt in to get them done. I had Attitude done by my vet for over $200, but in her case she had suddenly gone into heat at 5 months old(I thought I had until she was 6 months old, not to mention the vet told me she was 'definitely male' but I was having my suspicions that she was a she and not a he and this sealed it that I didn't have 2 boys but a boy and a girl.) I had discovered this by finding Nuts on top of her so I knew I had to get it done like yesterday. My vet could get her in the next day so I went for that.

I also just wasn't comfortable having a low cost do her(and the only one I knew about at the time charged $35 and took weeks to get into, I would have had kittens before they would have got her in.)

The $5 one is great, they always have dates the next week so they are good about getting them in and fast. I hate the vet that does the spays(he and I got into it over Mama's prolapse and him treating me like I was an idiot) but I don't have to deal with him so it's not an issue. Not to mention they offer blood tests, pain meds, etc for extra which the other didn't, also they would keep a pet with complications overnight, the other sent back a very sick Biter(I kept checking on her throughout the night hoping I wouldn't find her dead) and told us if she hadn't improved to take her to a vet(not them 'we just spay them' and they had no clue who to take her to) and get her fluids. Biter was the last one they got, Mama(who was already fixed by the $35 people) was actually how I found the $5 one. She went in for her prolapse the day after I got Attitude done and the a-hole vet gave me the info. They have done Half-tail, that stupid calico and her 2 new housemates, and as I said I need to get the boys in.

I agree that low cost s/n should be available everywhere. It's the only way I can afford to get the outside ones done and it's how I'm going to get Nuts done as well.

Attitude also started bouncing off the walls the second I released her from her kennel, of course she was also hopped up on pain killers so she wasn't feeling a thing. They do recover quickly, Attitude didn't seem to need her pain killers by day 2 but I gave them to her anyways since cats are good at hiding pain or any other weakness. Mama had just spent 4 days(it took me that long to catch her) in sub zero temps with her intestines hanging out her rear end and you would have thought she was perfectly fine by how she was acting.

Wow Taryn, that is really low cost! No excuse for anyone not to have it done. Less than a pack of smokes in most places.

I'm so glad Zoey is doing fine.

It is cheaper than a pack of smokes on this side of the river (IL), not sure about MO though(the clinic is in St. Louis so it's on the MO side of the river), they charge less for a pack of smokes.

I will say you do have to be low income or on public assistance. We qualify because Paul is older than dirt(he'll be 67 in July) so he's on Medicare.

The program also isn't that well known. As I said they can get you in the next week. It's $10 to spay/neuter a dog, so it is cheap.

I don't like that they offer de-clawing but there is nothing I can do about it, my vet also offers it.

Wow, 10$ for the dogs?! THAT is something awesome! Even the low cost place I took the girls to (and the 20$ I paid was an "optional donation" but I'd rather give them something to help keep them doing what they do) is 115$ for my 55lb APBT!
