I took my boy in yesterday for his check up and had a senior panel done, etc. The results came back today and all his values were 'perfect', per the vet, and the Hills CD seems to be doing a wonderful job - he had struvite crystals last September. She said he could stand to lose a little weight, but nothing too dramatic. I'm starting the twice a year visits, and we'll get his teeth cleaned in February after that check-up, as he's developing a little tartar.

Now, I'm just waiting on my girl's results, as I took her in this morning, and won't get the news til Tuesday when the office re-opens. Poor baby - she was so scared she was panting a bit at the vet's office, but she seemed fine as soon as we got home, and her physical check-up went well - she's a great weight and everything felt right to the vet. Her anal glands had to be expressed, so she just had a tough morning all around. The vet said she took at half-hearted nip at the tech, but everybody said she was a good girl, just scared. Now just hoping the bloodwork comes back ok too.

Thanks for listening.

Woohoo! So glad your little old man is doing so well. It's always a relief when the kitties get a good report from the vet.

Ah now this is a happy thread to read! I do six month check ups too, for all my cats, I'm fortunate that I can afford it.

Woo hoo - even though the office was officially closed this morning (usually they keep 10:00 to noon hours on Sunday, but it's the Memorial Day weekend), one of the vets took a moment to leave me a voice mail that Dharma's results were all well within normal as well. And she's definitely back to normal and forgave me for dragging her to the vet's office.

I am glad I've got enough money to manage the tests - although it's been quite a while since I bought any new clothes.
The senior panel is $78 which seemed pretty reasonable to me, but with shots, etc., we were looking a bit over $200 for each kitty. We discuss vaccine protocol, but I basically go with what the vets are doing for their own kitties.

Next go-round in January will probably include a dental cleaning, at least for Dante - but if that's the worst thing that happens, I will be a very blessed and happy camper.

I was lucky - we just did a normal senior panel as both cats looked and seemed fine during the exam, and have been fine at home - other than poor Dharma being so nervous at the vet. I still think it's amusing that I get so much interaction from the vet than I do from my own internist - and I do like my doctor.

But I can imagine how desperate you can feel when it's money that seems to stand in the way of getting needed treatment.
