Hey all!
I'm Kari from Idaho. My husband (of nearly 10 years) and I are both cat lovers! I'm really into animal rescue so both of our boys are rescues. We had three cats but our Lucy cat was getting beat up on by the boys so she is now living (very pampered I might add) with her "grandparents", my husband's parents. She is thrilled to be in her new home since she is now the only cat. She has always preferred dogs to cats. She LOVES them! And she now has a dog as her faithful companion.
As for my boys, Ricky Ricardo (you can see a theme happening here right?) is my big, white, polydactyl boy. He is 2 1/2 years old. He hasn't an ounce of fat on his body and he's 14.5 pounds. I got him from a rescue organization in Seattle. Here is a picture of him as a kitten and what he looks like now. He is somewhat shy of strangers but super affectionate with us.
Freddy is my clown. He is 1 1/2 years old. I rescued him free from a man on craigslist. The man had adopted Fred, at 6 weeks of age, from a woman outside Wal-Mart. Fred had a horrifying case of fleas so the man tried to treat him without veterinarian's advice or without any knowledge of cat care. He used an icky, oily flea spray, PLUS a flea collar, PLUS flea powder. It's a wonder that Fred even survived with all those chemicals and he was only 7 weeks old by then. I decided to take him sight unseen. I took him home and immediately bathed him to get all the chemicals off. I picked 18 fleas off of his tiny little head. I took him to the vet right away and gave him the works - shots, de-worming, vet-check, leukemia testing, etc. We've never had fleas since then. Fleas don't survive in our climate anyway so I'm not sure how he got them to start with. Fred is now a hulking fellow and best friends with Ricky. They snuggle, play and lick each other. Fred also is addicted to playing fetch. He taught himself the game and plays it with us every night. If he loses his ball, he wanders around crying until we retrieve it for him. He's extremely loving and likes to wrap his paws around our necks, knead on our faces and gives kisses. I think he must have some Ragdoll in him as he is extremely floppy. Think he might have Maine Coon too. Who knows. He's just a good 'ole mutt cat. Here's him as a kitten and then as an adult. As you can see, he hasn't changed much in his sleeping style.
Looking forward to getting to know everyone.
