There is a dead rodent on my porch

I know Mama has been digging up the yard trying to get to I guess a mole. Well either her or one of the others finally caught it, it's lying on the porch dead. It looks like a small mole but it could just be a small mouse. It's just lying there dead, no ones eating it, paying any attention to it except to give it a quick sniff, it's just there. It doesn't look damaged at all but I haven't examined it for obvious reasons. I know they had to kill it since no one around here is stupid enough to poison anything because they know about the cats.

When Paul gets up he gets to take care of it.

Whatever it is it's one less rodent around here which is a good thing.

I'm assuming they killed it in the yard and carried it onto the porch.

Oh well at least it's in one piece unlike the squirrel last fall I found that Goldie Jr was eating the head off of and then Runt went for the guts.

Sounds like you have an admirer. That was likely left there for you to eat - someone must think you don't get enough rodent in your diet.

It will attract ants if you leave if out there too long. If you could find yourself brave enough to get rid of it yourself a simple way to do it is to put your hand in a plastic bag (grocery bag) grab it through there and pull the bag inside out around the rodent. Tie the bag up and toss it in the trash. (this method works for picking up kitty poop that ends up out of the litter box, too)

The combination of bad storm winds and cats around here had me finding dead birds in my yard the day after tornado producing storm blew over. My theory is that 70+ mph winds damaged some birds and the cats took advantage of it. I found 5 birds.

I agree with S_W - someone brought you a gift! Yum, yum!! "Hunter" cats often do that with their human caretakers. My BF's late cat Cato used to bring him dead and one time half-dead mice! Blech.

Bless their little hearts, they are making sure you don't go hungry. They love their meowmy!

Baby mole, it's what's for dinner lol. I knew Paul would be up in a few hours and he was and he happily tossed it in the trash. I know they wanted me to have it.

I think the best dead present story is my ex-husband's cat Sinbad. One day he proudly presented Patrick with a dead full sized(this was not a miniature) adult wiener dog. Patrick has no clue whose dog it was but Sinbad brought it home for everyone to enjoy. I do want to note that Sinbad weighed about as much as my son did at 3 so we're not talking about a small cat, he was big in every sense of the word.

Knowing Sinbad the answer is yes, the wiener dog was his kill. Him and an orange cat got into a disagreement and all that was left of the orange cat was some orange fur. And yes, Sinbad was neutered. Sinbad wouldn't start a fight but he would make sure it ended, in his favor.

Sinbad, believe it or not, was a very placid loving cat. I had no qualms leaving Sinbad in the room with Bobby no matter how little he was. I will say that Sinbad didn't want much of anything to do with Bobby, he didn't smell right. I remember, I had to get Bobby a bottle and of course Bobby(at 7 weeks old) is screaming his head off. Sinbad walks into the kitchen and is just staring at me like "That little human is really upset, can you please fix him?" He would not leave the kitchen he just stood there and stared at me until I was done. Once I had the bottle Sinbad happily trotted off into the living room with me and made sure I 'fixed' Bobby, who was perfectly happy since he now had a bottle.

He was such a sweet cat. He wasn't mean or a aggressive or anything, he was a normal mellow cat, you just don't want to pick a fight with him. He quickly let their dogs(German Shepard mutts) Mork and Mindy know who the boss was and it was him. They were big enough that they could have ate Sinbad as a snack but they would always automatically submit to him.

Patrick said Sinbad looked so happy trotting up the street with his dead wiener dog to present to Patrick.

Like I said Sinbad was not a small cat. Also a good idea to put ID on your dog, Patrick never did find out who the collarless and tag-less dog belonged to and this was at least 10-15 years ago.

Like I said Sinbad was a big cat and I have no doubt he took down the dog himself.

WOW! What a story! That would make Boo soooooo jealous. He wanted to go after a full grown dog when I first got him but thankfully I had him on a leash. He thought way too much of himself back then LOL.

What a cat!!
