Can you recognize your cats from their purr? I can with my two. Dusty has a deep purr for such a little girl. Rusty's purr has a trill to it. They will come up at night for petting and I will know exactly which one is near me. And if I can't tell from the purr, I can from their tails. Dusty has a deformed tail at the base and with a little hook on the end. Rusty's tail is normal.

When I was little our cats I grew up with were very distinctive. My Sweety always had a very deep & loud purr. Especially when she was laying right next to my head on my pillow.

Yep. I too can tell by purrs and tails, in the dark, in my bed at night.
Ribs, too.

Actually, even their fur textures are different.

Yup. Rosalie doesn't purr much but when she does it's a low/quiet purr. Zoey, on the other hand, purrs ALL the time and it's rather loud, lol.

I can tell all four of ours.

Punkin has a tiny little purr that you almost can't hear.

Sterling has a nice, rumbling purr, very normal.

Flambe has a purr that will shake the room. In fact, he has awakened me from a deep sleep, sitting on the floor across the room!

Ella has funny purr with a snork and a squeak in it.

That's the same with our kitties, Jazzy & Ginga. Jazzy has a very small purr, Ginga has a VERY loud purr. The only thing is that at night, to me their bells sound the same ;]

I can differentiate all four of my kitties in a couple of ways -- purring is one of them. Emory has an extremely quiet purr. If you don't know to listen or feel for it, you're going to certainly miss it. Cassidy's purr is very rhythmic. It has many starts and stops to it. Delaney's purr is a constant "brr, brr, brr" sound. It is similar to a trill, but not quite the same (as she does both regularly). It's hard to explain, but super cute. And, Finn's purr is non-stop! It is loud, squeaky, and never-ending. No one can miss Finnegan's purr!

I can also tell by fur type, size, texture of fur, paws, and tails. Cassie and Finn are my DLH kitties. That, alone, makes it easy to tell them apart from the others. But, Cassidy's larger and also has a different texture to her fur -- Finnegan's fur is more puffy. And, that tail! It's big, full, and foofy. Emory and Delaney are both DSH, but Laney's fur is much softer than Em's fur. And, Emory's tail has a slight kink in it at the end. And Delaney has funny feet. I can't explain them, but I always know when she's patting me or walking on top of me.

I find it so fascinating that all of our cats are so similar yet so different and unique in their own way. I know my four couldn't be further apart personality-wise from one another! It's interesting that their bodies, fur, and sounds are also so unique. Fun topic!

i can easily id Chip - he's the loudest one! Pixel is fairly quiet, & Cable's a bit louder that Pixel is, but sometimes i still have to check for a collar [Pixel doesn't wear one] to be sure.
Firefox & Java are so soft i usually can't hear them at all - have to feel the rumble.

I only have one cat so I guess I'm cheating!

Normally, I can't even hear Holland purr unless I put my ear to her body, but lately she must be very content because I can hear her purr when she's sitting on my lap being loved.

If I can't see their feet I have to listen to their purr!
Eric and Marie look so similar it almost impossible to tell them apart. Eric just has a bit more white on his legs.

But their purrs are also very distinguished.
