Meow is changing from normal to VERY LOUD!

Dusty has always had a pretty audible meow when she wants something. But lately it has been ear-piercing LOUD! She is about 7 1/2 yrs. old. Is it normal that a cat's meow would change dramatically like this?

I wouldn't think it would be, I've never had it happen. When was her last vet check with blood work and hearing test?

I know she is overdue, but she's one that needs sedation for anything invasive. She's a sweetheart unless you are medicating her or messing with her body! The vet has "attack cat" written on her chart. But I think I will set up an appointment and get a good thorough physical including teeth cleaning.

Oh dear.

You could probably try a few little tests at home to see if she's hearing ok. You have to make sure she can't see what you're doing and just trying making different sounds behind her to see what she can respond to. I assume she's probably still coming to a loud kitty kitty call?

That happened with one of my late cats (Kit-Kit ) and we never really diagnosed it, but she was fairly old (estimated at about 12, but maybe more than that; she was a stray). I have since heard it could be a thyroid issue; I know she eventually lost her voice altogether (but she was not a particularly "talkative" cat anyway). So, it is absolutely worth investigating.

MMMMMM Liam tends to be the one that "speaks" the loudest and dosnt matter when. He will be 1 the end of next month. I think with him he thinks he wants our attention and wants it now. Zipper does it to complain to me that the boys won't leave her alone. She likes to tattle tell.

I think she still has her ear infection, and she hates it when I try to clean or put drops in.

I made a vet appt. for Thursday. They will sedate her and clean out her ears and teeth too, and probably do blood work. Poor baby.

That could certainly affect her hearing some. I hope the vet visit helps and she gets better.
