I guess she was hungry

I came home from school yesterday to find a mess in the kitchen. The pantry door was open, the bag of cat food I'd bought and not put into the plastic container was opened, and there was a sample can of cat food on the floor. So when my dtr came home from school- I asked her what happened.

Appparently while she was upstairs getting ready for school, HollyHeart decided she was hungry (like she hadn't been fed at least once already.). I guess she can smell that the orange bag has her food in it. She ripped the bag open, dragged the sample can of wet food out of the bag- then decided to "snack" on the open cat food

Now why the 13 year old couldn't have just cleaned the mess up instead of leaving me to have to do it- I don't know.

I just don't know what to do with this silly cat. She also likes to hang on the screen windows (thankfully downstairs- we now have to watch her with any open windows upstairs), she thinks that Sneaky Pie is her BFF (and Sneaky will run away and hiss at her if she's had enough) and take up half the bed at night

My girls are like that, especially Buffy (she gets vicious around bags that hide nice carby treats or kibbles). Bags have to be stored up high, or in cupboards, and even then, Buffy will find a way to it. Usually she's okay, but when she's bored, she'll get to hanging around wherever the treats are. I don't know how she knows, but if the treats are at the top shelf of the pantry nook, she's looking up at that top shelf. Then she'll "find" herself on a chair, then a table, then hauling herself up on one of the middle shelves. Then it's a matter of hauling herself up higher shelves until she reaches the jackpot. If there aren't any treats there, she'll relieve the disappointment by munching on bags of dry pasta. That, and she'll start shoving cans off the shelves, watching them hit the floor. Then when somebody comes around the corner to see what the ruckus is about, Buffy wails "I didn't do it!!" (nice and loud, too, looking straight at us, lol)

We feed canned food or RAW, but recently my dog was put back on kibble again. I bought a big container to store the kibble, thinking it was safe. I let Buffy munch on the bag because, lets face it, she thoroughly enjoys it. I set the bin on the dresser because I wasn't sure yet where to put it. Come back a couple of hours later, and it's not there. Nope, it's down on the floor next to the dresser, on it's side, lid popped open, and at least 2lbs (out of 4 or 5lbs) of food missing. Jake (the dog) had gas for a week and half, and I was terrified about his belly for a couple of days until everything digested. It's only just now that the gas is dissipating. Now that bin is hidden inside a dresser drawer where Buffy can't get to it and shove it over a ledge, giving Jake the opportunity to finish off the rest. I was too worried about Jake to be impressed at Buffy's ability to push about 5lbs with one paw off a ledge. It wasn't even right at the edge, it was against the wall. Buffy's only 7lbs (measured her today, it said just over 6lbs, gonna check again)

My cousin swears that a cat he had years ago would open the kitchen cabinet, fish out a can of cat food, and push it across the floor into his bedroom and be sitting there by the bed waiting every morning......LOL I still have a hard time believing that one but I guess some cats are quite inventive and resourceful that way!

Hollyheart knows what she wants and how to get it!

As for your daughter cleaning it up....she's 13! I'm sure it never even occurred to her!

Jennie once got shut in the closet where I store the bags of food. I didn't notice she was missing until it was her turn for Games and she wasn't around. It took me quite a long time to back track and figure out where she was.

I never heard a peep out of her....because she had chewed a hole in the bottom of the bag and was having a wonderful snack, in the pitch black dark.

Now, anytime I open that closet Jennie is there immediately. I swear she teleports (and she learned how from Tolly!)
