Sneezing disease

Hi all,
It is a long time since I wrote here but now I need a peace of advice. We have taken care of a cat that someone has dumpt in our area and he has now been with us for three years. When we found him he was very ill from pneumonia and after antibiotica, cortison and vitamine-B shots and seven theeth removed he became a lot better but has live with a chronical bronchitis and astma in the spring. He needs around three antibiotica cures and cortison shots a year to get by but after a new antibiotica cam on the market, that he can have in a shot that is good for two weeks, his bronchitis is almost gone. Then he got a bacterial infection in his nose instead. After a few month with more antibiotica and even nose drips with antibiotica he is better but not well. It seem as he have catched a resistant bacteria. Our vet says that there is nothing to do but I don't want to give up on him. He is now very skinny since he doesnät eat enough when he cannot smell the food and he really has problems with large amount of snot pooring from his nose all the time. Before I begin to check with other vets I would like to know if anyone here has any experience of this and maybe a treatment that works.
He is the friendliest cat I ever met and he loves our one year old son - who isn't always so nice to him. Or son and this cat, Mattis, is inseperable and has been so almost from our sons birth.
I hope you can give me a piece of advice.

I would seek out a 2nd opinion from another vet, if you can.

Can the vet do a culture to determine what type of bacteria it is & what antibiotic it will respond to best?

To help him some with the congestion - you can try a hot steamy shower, then put him in the bathroom. Warming up canned food also helps it smell more so he will hopefully eat better.
