Kittens Peeing on Bed

I read through the thread on inappropriate peeing, but I don't think my problem was covered in there. I have three kittens, 9 weeks old. They are a bit behind in development, some more then others. They use their litter boxes during the day with out a problem. They pee and poo in them. At night, it is a different story. Ever since I let them roam the bedroom at the night, they are peeing in our bed. I thought it was the smallest, but she was in my roommates room last night, and it still happened in my room.
They are all healthy, and use the box the rest of the time. They are now going to have to be locked up at night, in the bathroom. How can I work on fixing this problem while they are with me, before they go to their new homes, wherever that might be?
To get an idea of how behind they are, the vet says they look like 6 week olds ( at least the larger two) and last wednesday they were 1.6, .6 and 1 pounds.

Too small to be roaming, IMO. Yes , put them in very close proximity to their litter box. Try using Kitten Attract litter or additive to entice them. Also - wash anything they peed on with enzymatic cleaner to get rid of the smell TO THEM. Otherwise that is "marked" territory, even to a baby.

At that size their bladders are very small and they don't have complete control over them. Like a toddler.

And keep an eye out for possibly urinary problems.. .though I think it is probably TWBS - (teeny weeny bladder syndrome!! ) LOL!

i have this exact same problem, our bedroom is right next door to the laundry, and thats where the litter box is, the cat was already wondering the room to begin with, so he could of very easily gone to the litter box instead of peeing all our our bed.

Yes, I have enzymatic cleaner, I sprayed down the mattress and the bedding. I guess my cuddle bugs have to be locked up at night! I loved cuddling with them. Ringo sleeps on my pillow above my head, and Lennon curled under my chin (i lay on my side). It was wonderful! Guess I'll have to wait till they are bigger, lol

These kittens sound much too small and much too young to be "away" from their litter box all night. They need to be confined in a small place so they can get to the litter box quickly. My kittens don't 'roam' until they are at least 3 months old and much closer to 3 lbs but they are still put back in 'their' room overnight to prevent any accidents. These babies are still learning how to be cats and being in a smaller area will help them learn good litter box habits.

are u saying to keep the kitten in a separate room with his litter box at night?

pmantis - glad to see you didn't bail out of tcs! I personally don't have an issue with putting your kitten in a room with a litter pan, food and water (and toys).. as long as he has something to comfort him. He wants that closeness, that warmth as he has bonded w/you already. Tucker him out first as others said.

Or get him another cat as a companion. If that is possible.

sorry laceface for stealing your thread lol

ok great, i dont particularly want to get another kitten, as our landlord wont be happy, and id rather care for one kitten than two.

ill set up a room for him in the laundry, maybe when hes older he can stay with us in bed, but i dont want him to ever pee on the bed again lol, my partner wasnt happy with her $200 dooner getting peed on!

This goes for you and for laceface. He has a teeny bladder but he may also be marking you and it is good to NOT let him get in that habit. As I said to the OP - get Kitten Attract litter or additive.

They don't have a problem using their box the rest of the time, I agree that it is probably the little bladder problem. They don't have accidents during the day. They have two boxes in there, so they are easy to get to. They were quiet locked in the bathroom last night (with food, water, their bed, scratching post, assorted toys) so, I will just do that till they are older!

I'm so excited I just have to share. The kittens apparently refused to stay in the bathroom last night (according to my fiance, lol) and slept in bed. No accidents! I was so excited. That means they can be out now. They are almost ten weeks now, and I doubt any are more then 2 pounds, and the smallest is probably not a pound yet. But, they can all hold it till they get to their litter box. Woo! They also all play (new for the girlie)! I am so excited. Vet again this week, hopefully Lennon can get his first vaccine. I decided they are all staying until everyone is neutered. Then, they can go to a no-kill shelter, since I can't find them homes. But, at least my babies will be well cared for.

They are small. At 8 weeks Attitude was over 2.5 lbs and heading for 3 lbs(Her and Nuts didn't come in until they were over 12 weeks old, when Paul decided we could get Maude vaccinated against leukemia and let them come in so they were both 4+ lbs.) I was going to go for the small bladder as well, and that if you didn't lock them up at night to at least put a box in the bedroom with you in case they wait until the last minute they need to go(or don't realize until the last minute that they do.) It's just like with potty training kids they don't always realize it until they have to go that second, been there, done that, my son didn't wear underwear in public until he was well trained, he wore a diaper or Pull-up(I used them at night) in public. He would let me know if he had to go while out even in a diaper once he was starting to get trained. He was also a master at getting diapers off, not even duct tape could keep a diaper on him if he wanted it off(and no his diapers weren't duct taped shut if we were going out, I had to use scissors to cut them off him), usually because he wanted to play with the contents of the diaper. I know from experience(and a lot of it, ugh) that Mr. Clean magic erasers are great at getting poop off of walls in case anyone ever needs to know that, lol.

I would still, make sure they had quick access to a litter box by putting one in the bedroom as a just in case measure with them being so small. We had one in the bathroom and one in the kitchen(big kitchen and it was already there since it was Maude's) in the trailer just to make sure they had a box close by. Somehow it has become 1 in the bathroom and 3 side-by-side in the kitchen(The 'Tude and Nuts aren't territorial on boxes so they don't care if the other is using a box in the same area as they are plus they still have a box elsewhere in case there is trouble.)

I'm glad it seems to be under control but if it starts again you might need to add a box to the bedroom if they start up again.
