I think my cat may have just had a seizure.

He has a few fleas that I have been trying to get rid of for months, and he is constantly licking and biting himself. He was just on my lap doing that, when he seemed to try to bite a spot far down his back. He contorted a little and shook like he was trying to stretch to that spot. Then he fell off my lap and shook a little on the ground and peed a little. It lasted for about 5 seconds. He seems fine now.

Could that be a seizure? He is almost 9 and nothing like this has ever happened before.

I had a manx that would have seizures and she would do what your cat just did when she had them sometimes.
I would call the vet and have him checked out.

Good
I would request a senior panel since he is 9.
It was very scary and she died having a big one at age 11.
She had them since she was a kitten though so it is different with your cat.
When is the vet?

Saturday. Unfortunately, I can't afford to have the complete labs done now. I will just have him checked for a few specific viruses and have a general check-up. The vet said I shouldn't worry too much since this hasn't happened before.

Thanks for the nice words. Any advice on what to do if he does have another seizure? Just wait it out?

Sorry to hear about this! My cat has something called Syncope, which is often mistaken for seizures...so, I did a ton of research when we thought he was having seizures. From what I understand, you can't do anything but wait it out - unless it lasts for 5 minutes or more or he has several of them in a row, then you need to get to the ER because it could be life threatening. Otherwise, just move things out of the way so he can't be injured, and let it run it's course.

Best of luck! It is heartbreaking and scary...fingers crossed that this was a one-time thing.

He seems to be doing OK still, so I guess he didn't hurt himself at all today during the seizure.

Thanks to for the nice messages. Good luck with the Syncope!
