Kitten behaviors

Lola (9 weeks) constantly bites at our faces -- noses, lips, cheeks, everything. It is really painful actually, her teeth are so sharp! She does is mostly while we are sleeping -- she sleeps in the same room as us and this is not really flexible due to the size/makeup of our house.

While she also attacks our feet/hands, the face attacking is particularly bothersome.

I did some research and have found that this is normal kitten behavior, but it isn't fun for us, at all. I will be calling the vet, but was wondering if anyone had any experience with this and how to fix it, or atleast lessen it.

I am going to guess she gets ur immediate attention when she does this. Another words u are taking her off u and saying no etc? That's what she wants a response. Jack did this as a baby-hed chew my hair also. We learned to ignore it-pull the covers over ur head whatever it takes. Any response is enough motive for them to keep doing it.

It is normal. She is playing. Kittens are really rough with each other. Does she have another kitten in the house to play with? That usually decreases the problem significantly. That is why it is frequently recommended to adopt kittens in pairs.

If she does not have another kitten in the house then all her social play is going to be directed at you guys. Never physically punish her. Instead, shout NO when she does it, and always have a toy ready to put in front of her, to redirect the play onto the toy. Over time she WILL calm down, but it can actually take over a year sometimes.

Just thought I would update. We donated some stuff to our local animal welfare league today and fell in love with the kittens. We are going to look into fostering as I am not sure we or Lola is ready quite yet for a permanent addition. She is boarding at a "pet resort" tonight and she is doing incredibly well. If the fostering situation goes well, we may adopt another kitty for Lola.
