Brief background: Shadow was overnite at the vet's last week, high fever, dehydrated etc. Thankfully went to collect her the next day, all back to normal, and we were all very happy.

Vet said to keep her indoors for the day, so I could observe her fully & ensure she ate/drank didn't fall over.

Problem was, Salem her brother, was quite happily going in & out of the house, it was very warm (v. unusual for Ireland!!), and Dad was in & out to the garden, so I felt really bad for keeping Shadow cooped up indoors...plus she made sure to lay on the guilt.

So, I had a bright idea
(hindsight's a wonderful thing!!
). Trapped her, and eventually put the harness on her, with one part around her neck (bit tighter than I'd have her collar) and 2nd part around her belly.

Led her out into garden, and in about 10 mins, she had me wrapped around the bushes.
I was forced to let go of the leash, hoped she's sit still for the 2 seconds it would take for me to get to the other side of the bush and retrieve it...but not a chance, she legged it for the open side door (duh!) and was gone.
Thankfully she re-appeared complete with harness and leash trailing after her...but as I went to grab her, she legged it again, this time into the garden, but by the time I came through, she was outta sight.

So, I get the kibble bowl and the food bell and shake em for all i'm worth for about 10 mins, hoping she'll return.
The cheeky fecker
! She was sitting just out of view (she's black, she's always just out of view!
), under the near bush watching me like I'm some kinda fool.

Now I'm relieved she's safe and won't hang herself on the harness collar,
: but I eventually get her out from the bush, and in my bright idea mode
(I shoulda learned from the 1st one), I loop the leash around the washing line pole, leave her to learn she can't get too far but might calm down in my absence. I put food and a cushion within reach and went out the front to chat to a neighbor.

Returning to the back garden (I swear not more than 2-3 mins)...all that was left tied to the washing line pole was the harness...no Shadow!
The little magician had managed to free herself from both harness parts, without breaking them and had truly legged it!!

Thankfully she came back within about 5 mins, and once I gave her space so she didn't think she was in trouble, she was happy to stay mostly in the garden.

I'm still trying to figure out how in the heck did she get out of both parts so damn fast!!

Don't worry.
Our kitten Ginga has done that before. When she tried to get out of her harness, she shook her head, kicked upwards did a few small things and...

BAM!

She was free.
