I went out to tend to the garden this evening and picked up the hose without paying attention. I touched something horrible, gross, and slimy! I jerked my hand back and saw there were two slugs on the hose. I was trying to wash my hand under the running water, but the slime just wouldn't come off. You should have seen the surgical scrub I did when I got back inside.

That's better than stepping on them barefoot and having one squish between your toes..

ugh ugh ugh!! boy do I hate slugs! I gave up growing certain annuals in my gardens because I couldn't deal with the slugs noshing on them every night.

marigolds would disappear over night. Petunias would become denuded. pansies too. Sigh.

Beer is not all that effective. One year I went out every evening with a bucket of hot water and disinfectant cleaner and rubber gloves and picked the slugs off the plants. But I just can't do that kind of chore any more. And what the slugs don't eat, the moles kill from under neath. So no pretty annuals any more.

My wild flower perennials are sturdy at least!

Ugh.....I hate slugs! They love our hosta. We were thinking of trying the beer dishes around the hosta, but now I guess I won't bother if it doesn't work well. Ugly slimy things anyway.

Otto, I'd love to see some pictures, too, please!

Oh ICK! I hate slugs with a passion; there is nothing like the feel of those slimy little bodies to gross you out.
Coarse sand sprinkled around your plants can help keep the little buggers from eating them. If you've got a strong stomach you can sprinkle salt on the slug to kill it. I learned that from my brother, but I refuse to do it. As much as I hate slugs, I can't bear to do that to them.

Up until yesterday, I managed to live my life blissfully without having ever touched a slug. Then, after I touched him and getting all grossed out, I worried that maybe touching him harmed him, like it would have a butterfly.
I'm extremely soft-hearted.

I have stepped on them barefoot... several times. *barf* They love our porch for whatever reason.

Those are the grossest animal EVER. Give me snakes and spiders any day, but slugs? EW! I rather touch a cat turd than a slug LOL!

I have to admit.... I am one of those ppl who, after I get over the sick feeling in my stomach, I check to make sure the nasty thing is still alive. They deserve to live, I jst prefer that they stay 10000 feet away from me at ALL times.

Yes slugs are really gross and nasty in the garden eating merrily away on plants BUT I'd rather touch a slug then even glance at a snake. I am sooooo afraid of snakes. Something to do with fact when I was little my mean brother who liked to upset me threw one at me and even though it was dead it freaked me out.
