I found this site because my husband's cat has Stomatitis. The vet had tried antibiotics, dental cleaning, and steroids (which he has been on for a while). he But the last time we went in, he said that we really needed to not give him those shots anymore and that the only other thing he could recommend was to pull all his teeth. My husband's (and my) biggest concern is that our cat is 17 years old now. And we worry that such a major surgery in his mouth is going to be too much for him. Just wondering if anyone has gone through this with an older cat?

Welcome to TCS! I've asked a moderator to move your post to a new thread so that your question doesn't get lost with another person's issue.

My Stumpy had half of his teeth pulled at age 12 and the rest pulled at age 13. At 15 now, he would not have been alive had we not done that to him. Find a veterinary dentist and screen them to ensure they have a lot of experience with geriatric cats. A friend of mine does senior cat rescue and has dentals done on cats older than 20 years old, but she had to do some research to find a dental vet with the right experience.
