When bringing an outdoor cat inside with other cats, what contagious diseases do I need to be aware of? I know I can test for FeLV and FIV. All of my indoor cats have herpes and calici virus so that isn't really a concern. I don't vaccinate any of my indoor cats for panleukopenia (distemper) so that does worry me. I'm concerned about the enteric coronavirus but I don't know if a cat infected with it is something to be really concerned about. My understanding is that the coronavirus is contagious and can cause FIP, but FIP is not contagious. I'm not sure if that's true because I've found contradicting information about that.

Well, FeLV is a big concern. FIV isn't as much of a concern if they don't fight. Distemper always worries me, as I foster I've kept all my adult cat UTD on distemper shots because you just don't know how long they keep immunity with the shots (1 year, 10 years, or somewhere inbetween?).

Then there are the obvious things, like fleas/ticks & worms.

This is correct. When the cat's immune system is unable to fight off the corona virus and the virus mutates, the cat may then develop FIP. A cat with FIP is not contagious and does not need to be isolated from other animals. It is not a well understood disease and there are many misconceptions. . . as well as poor cats who are misdiagnosed
