Simon is available at our shelter. I've told several people that he's the kind of cat that the girls can love, but the guys can feel macho for having such a striking-looking cat!

Simon

Simon came in with two other cats, all about 7 years old, all neutered, all front declawed. The other two cats have been put to sleep; one was obese, and one was very timid. Their elderly owner had to move to a nursing home, and the kids couldn't or wouldn't take care of them.

Simon looks huge, but he's probably about 10 pounds. His fur is thick but silky, and when I brushed him, he shed very little. And he's like a dog; he wants to be next to you (but not ON you) wherever you go. If you're sitting and petting him, and he moves out of your reach, he rushes back as soon as he realizes it. And he has a big purr, too.

Notice the ear tufts. They don't show a lot in the photos, but in person, they are very striking.

Looks part Maine Coon. So sad to hear about his housemates. What is wrong with people and family pets??? Man, I need to get on the stick and change my will. I am leaving everything to the kitties (to care for any companion animals in my possession when I pass) ... and if I am incapacitated... use what I need to take care of my needs and THEN the kits - legally. NO SHELTERS!!!!!!

We had a terrier mix come in today. 12 years old. Owner has Alzheimers and wasn't caring for the dog. No one in the family would take over I guess. Sweet, sweet, sweet little girl. With ears like radar dishes!!! LOL!!! Made me sad and I spent a lot of time with her b/c she was scared and confused. At least they didn't dump her at the county pound which is high kill.

Simon is a gorgeous boy
! It's lucky I live so far away -- otherwise, I'd be apt to snatch him up! He really is a striking, unique cat.

It's such a shame that the other two cats that came in with Simon had to be euthanized. It's heartbreaking, really. I often wonder how the family members of individuals can "get rid of" their loved one's pets following an illness or death. I know that, when my grandmother became ill and was hospitalized, we took in her cat without even a second thought. It saddens me as I know, for most individuals who have to give up a pet due to illness or the like, they would want their pets to be cared for by those they love.

With the health issues I have been having recently, I am planning on drawing up a will specifically regarding my pets. While I am lucky in that I have a roommate and friends who would take my pets on without a second thought, the peace of mind would help ease my anxieties. My pets are my family and they deserve to be treated as such -- even if I'm no longer here (which is not in the forecast, by the way).

I hope Simon can find a forever, loving home in short order. He is a macho guy, but you can tell he's a sweetheart as well. Please keep us updated on this beautiful boy.

(Oh! And I love the ear tufts! My Finn has "ear hair" and I love it
!)

We have another cat we've had since February. She's a nice cat, and also declawed. Her elderly owner died, and the family just threw her out to live in their barn. Someone finally took pity on her and brought her in to the shelter.

Another cat, brought in by a trucker, was put to sleep yesterday. He changed companies, and the new company said the cat had to be declawed to live in the truck with him. He refused to declaw her. But she was a biter, and when she got sick, the shelter couldn't justify keeping her. I wish she would have gone to Barn Rescue, at least. I wonder if the guy had any notion he was effectively killing his companion of 6 years by taking her to the shelter?

I often wonder if the family member is still alive if they truly understand what is happening to their pet(s), or if they are dead if they are turning over in their graves. Many times, those pets meant the world to them.

Simon is a handsome beast anyone would be proud to own!
So sad about the other cats. I doubt very much that the trucker guy realised what would happen to his cat.

Today is my shelter day, and I had a real scare. Simon's cage was empty, cleaned out, when I got there this morning. I feared the worst, but apparently he's come down with a URI and is in the isolation room. I looked in, and he's playing happily with two other cats in there. For such a striking face, he's truly a gentle soul. One of the shelter workers has a DNPTS note on his paperwork, otherwise I'd be mourning him today, too.

When we went to the shelter yesterday to pick up the two Siamese cats for the rescue group, Simon was still not out front. I checked the treatment room, and he wasn't there, either. I asked about him with some trepidation, but I got good news: SIMON GOT ADOPTED, ALONG WITH ONE OF THE OTHER CATS HE CAME IN WITH!!!!

Happy rest of your life, Simon!

Yay! I was worried reading your post, but I'm so glad he's got a home now.
