Does anybody continue their vaccinations and Revolution while your kitty is in renal failure? Or could it make it any worse?

Thanks.

My Callie has CRF, but it's not to the point where she's on sub-qs or anything like that. I continue the Revolution because of the high mosquito population here and the increasing potential for her to contract heartworms. Even though she doesn't go ouside, we're in and out of the house enough for mosquitoes to enter and I just don't want to take the chance.

I did get the 3-yr rabies vac for her last year when she went to the vet. This is required by state law here (TX), but she probably won't get another one.

Shots most vets would advise no( there are some that say yes)... IMHO there are safer things than revolution that are effective unless you live in an area saturated with mosquitos

I continued to get Ootay (rb 5/09) her annual Purevax rabies vaccine, not only because it is law here, but because there are lots of bats in my area (they live in the eaves of my house) and rabies is alive and well where I live.

Ootay's last rabies shot, the March before she left us, my vet was hesitant to give it to her, but because of the bats, I insisted. It did not trouble her kidney disease any, it was a third stroke that decided me to send her on to the Bridge.

When discussing flea treatments (I don't use them but was asking about Revolution as I was worried about mosquitoes) my vet said that Revolution should be given to healthy cats only as it is absorbed by the blood stream, differently than things like Frontline plus.

Bottom line is, your vet knows the most about your cat's health and if your vet thinks vaccines and Revolution are okay for your CRF kitty, and you trust your vet, then go with it.

I agree with Otto. However, unfortunately, rabies shot is required in FL. I'm from Tampa, my baby cat used to get it every year. Flea treatment is definitely needed there, too and I'm sure there's alternative to Revolution.

Thanks everyone. We're in Pinellas County and rabies is required. To be honest, this is the first year we've gotten them since they were kittens.

Both Cleo & Maggie are CRF, and I had not kept up their rabies vaccines since they were diagnosed. Last spring, my vet recommended getting them all vaccinated against rabies because there was a significant rise in rabies cases in Midland county. I feel slightly reassured because they only use the adjuvent-free Purvax Feline Rabies vaccine, by Merial, Ltd. My vet only recommends Advantage flea medication for cats with CRF. She feels that it is the safest one for use on cats with chronic medical conditions.

I dropped my Oreo off at the vets for surgery today and we talked about Cocos CRF.
She agrees most shots are bad for CRF cats and can make them way worse.
My Coco does not get shots anymore.

Discuss whether titer testing would be enough with your vet. If you can prove that your cats rabies titers are still good, get proof of this from a vet, in some areas it will cover it.

there is a glitch with titers.. they only check one of a three part immunity .. thus if it says covered you may not be and if it says not you still may be
