I've mixed in warm water before, usually if the food has been in the fridge, but I will try it again.

I was just having dinner, and they would not even eat some pieces of warm cooked hamburger I offered them.

Your goal at the beginning of this thread was to, at the suggestion of your vet, get Mr Gray on a limited ingredient diet.
How many kitties do you have?
Is Mr Gray the only one that is having possible food allergy issues?

This is just my opinion....
I think that you should de-stress the food issue by leaving them/him on dry for the short term.

You can transition slowly to a good limited ingredient dry, some have been recommended above, when that situation is stable, then address the wet food issue.
One thing at a time.

Yes I know that, but since most of the people who replied here were talking about wet food instead of dry, I was responding to their suggestions...

Apparently there are not many other choices besides Natural Balance for a dry food without those ingredients so I have started to switch their food to Natural Balance limited ingredient food. The only other suggestion I got from this thread that actually does not contain chicken, fish or grain is the Royal Canin prescription food. I was able to find one other food that meets the requirements, Addiction Viva La Venison, but I found out there is no distributor for that food in my area so I would have a very hard time getting that.

It is just one cat (Mr Grey) who needs the special food, but it would be difficult to provide all the other cats with a different food in a way that the one cat would not have any access to the 'wrong' food so I am switching them all to the new food.

Instinct has a new formula - Duck and Turkey. I don't know the ingrediants but it may be worth checking out. It is not listed on their site yet. If it is any thing like the other two formula's however it will have salmon meal.

I saw it on their facebook group.

I have no doubt that you will find a good solution for Mr Gray and your kitty tribe.

There's no place like home
My friend has a cat with a chicken allergy. Let me find out what dry she feeds her kids.

Edited - just heard back from her. You will need to check the remaining ingredients in these, but here are 2 without chicken: Natural Balance Duck and Green Pea, and Evanger makes one chicken free (she didn't give me the flavor).

I know regular dry Nature's Variety Instinct and Innova EVO both have fish; the Instinct LID does not (and comes in turkey - ingredient list here).  I agree that it is very difficult to find a grain-free, fish-free dry, I can't imagine also needing it to be chicken-free!

As far as switching from dry to wet, there are lots of good suggestions out there.  There are additives you can sprinkle on top, some just for flavor & others also helpful (probiotics FortiFlora); some say Parmesan cheese works.  Fancy Feast is a good place to start as most will eat that, especially the ones with gravy (though they're the least healthy); then you can mix that w/healthier stuff gradually.

@Nekochan,

The Acana Grasslands Cat & Kitten diet is a high quality grain-free dry food that does not contain chicken or fish. It is a combination of lamb and duck. You can view the ingredients, here : http://www.acana.com/products/regionals/grasslands-cat-kitten/

If your vet is making the recommendation to avoid foods with chicken and fish due to possible allergies, then you should also avoid dry and wet foods with whole peas as an ingredient as this can also trigger allergies in some cats as there is higher starch content in whole peas versus pea protein which has been cooked to the point of concentration which removes a lot of the starch.

Misty also has allergic reaction to fish and poultry, but seems to be okay with grains.  I took her off the Hills prescription Venison & Green Pea because she threw it up.  I thought it would be easier for her to just go with wet food, but we cannot find enough options to meet her finicky appetite and there are NO dry foods available for cats with allergiesWysong makes a wet all beef and pea, which is just a supplement, which she liked, but she kept getting diarrhea; then I discovered "animal plasma" as an ingredientMysty liked Merrick's Cowboy Cookout but she got diarrhea and I discovered "dried eggs" (poultry) as an ingredient.  There are wet food options (Evo and Hounds&Gatos) but the pate consistency bothers her.  I have emailed to Merrick for an all beef cat food because they make an all beef dog food, but I have not heard back.  I simply do not understand why dog's get the benefit of better food.  Some dog-foods have perfect ingredients for Misty, all they need to do is add turine, but no company is doing it.   I'm putting Misty back on Hills Venison & Green Pea and cooking up shaved steak because I am at my wits end.

Try Blue Buffalo Basic. It has both dry and canned. It's grain free. You can get it at Petsmart or Petco.

Purina has a food line called Beyond. I was looking at it at the store last time, considered getting it for our cats. Unfortunately it's pretty expensive, but if you can afford it, it seems like a good choice.

Orijen is a great dry cat food, please check out Orijen Regional or Red.  It is grain free, 80% protein, 20 % fruits and veg. and 0% grain, potato, or GMO.  My cat won't touch Blue Buff.,  Halo, or Lotus.  Research it online, you may like what you see.  *His fav  is Origen Six Fish. Crude Protein is min. 46% his vet approves as he is only 2 1/2 yrs old.

His coat is luminous, his energy level is way up there, and because it is so digestible there is very little waste in the litter box. For adult maintenance and he is - 13 lbs, I give him 1/8 C because he also gets wet food.

For wet:

Try Dave's 95%.  It is a dense wet cat food  your REALLY get your money's worth!  95% meat, Grain free no wheat or wheat  gluten. The ones I buy are a pate' not any of the ones with gravy as he is picky. www.DAVESPETFOOD.COM

Look up Gobbleisious Gourmet Dinner Grain Free. Turkey, Chicken Liver, Chicken, Chicken Broth  are the first 4 ingredients. Dave also has dry cat food.  THERE IS NO MEAL.            ( chicken meal, turkey meal)

Wellness Core Turkey and Duck specifically states on the back "chicken and fish free" it is also grain free. My cats like it.

My cat also threw up every time we fed her the NB duck and pea dry food.... still looking for a dry food sans fish or chicken to supplement her diet. Right now she is doing well on canned Hills science beef formula, but we go through a lot of that and she likes to have dry food in between meals...
