It is about half an hour before friday here, but I know in some parts of the world it's already Friday so I'm going to go ahead and post the QOTD.
So summer is almost here!! All I have on my mind is beach, pool, sun

So my question for today is

Do you like to tan in the sun during the summer, when you're at the beach?? Or are you too afraid of the sun's damage?
If you don't tan, do you use self tanners or just stay white like I do

I've seen a lot of people who swear by the sun's benefits, when it's in moderation. Going in the sun every day between the hours of 10 and 12 will make you very tan and will not burn you, and a lot of people say that this is beneficial, though medicine strictly says otherwise. So I am curious about what people think about this.

great question...

Well I got the fortune to live at 20 minutes by road to the near beach to my home...
you can see it here:

( I mean Progreso Beach)

....

-YES I tan during the summer time...
( but not very often )
- But not a lot..
. of course I wear some protection but I don´t spend to much time under the sun....

& I´m not white...
...

I don't tan and honestly don't think the tanned look is even that attractive.
(especially those that take it too far) I'd prefer not to have skin cancer.

I don't go to the beach. Where I live there's only a couple "fresh water" lakes that are rather nasty, plus I can't swim.
I also don't spend much time outside anymore once it warms up due to heat intolerance. I can't sweat like a normal person does and already have low blood pressure. Too much time outside in the heat will make me faint or come very close to it and will leave me sick.

When I go out in the sun I just burn. I wear 75spf sunscreen but still end up looking like a giant tomato after a few hours.
I don't go to the beach very often because I hate getting burnt.

I don't tan on purpose. I also don't wear sunscreen unless I'm going to be out all day (to avoid a burn); I'm just not sold on the thought that smearing chemicals all over my skin is healthier than getting a tan. I'm a mail carrier (sometimes, and sometimes I work inside the Post Office) so I do get fairly tan in the summer. My skin gets spots instead of tanning evenly, so I don't look "tanned" anyway.

I don't lay out in the sun and try to get tanned, I do go to the beach quite a bit though. I wear sunscreen everyday anyway.

Same here. I don't like sun damage.

I do sometimes wear that gradual tanning lotion, but not yet this year. I am trying to embrace my fair skin, but it's hard in a world of orange women

I am rarely out in the sun but I do like to tan some. I am afraid of skin damage though. At my age, I am prone to get more damage.

I also wonder about the girls I knew in the 70's that would get dark brown tans in the summer. They must look like they are in their 70's or 80's by now!

No, I don't stay in the sun. I have a skin condition called vitiligo. It is a loss of skin pigment. If I stay in the sun, I burn and it is very painful. I do try to be in the sun for just a little while each day, but only for a short time. People I know who have sun worshipppers with repeated burns and tans, have bad looking complexions as they age, kind of like an old shoe.

We don't go to the beach or anything like that. But we have an inground pool and I live in that during the summer time, so I usually get a fairly nice tan. As soon as it's open and the water heats up, I'm in.

At night, after I do my walk, I'll come back home, strip down, and hit the pool for several hours. Or after a day of working in the flowerbeds, I'll jump in the pool to cool off. And my DH and I will sometimes hang out in the pool until late at night.

I don't go to the beach. Living in the middle of Manhattan, it's just a major thing picking up and going to the beach. I'm very fair, too, so if I'm going to be in the sun for awhile (running, sitting in the park), I put on a sunscreen.

I spent too many years when I was young getting brutal sunburns. I'm very lucky not to have gotten some kind of skin cancer. I'm not gonna push my luck. But I do believe that a little bit of sun is good for you, getting Vitamin D and all.

I do love going down to Mexico, though. (Playa del Carmen) The place we go to has nice palapas by the pool, with the ocean just steps away. I stay under the palapa in the shade.

I used to be a sun worshipper like most people. As a young mom I would do my housework then go outside and bake. Didn't use sunscreen either. Now I prefer to sit in the shade. I use sunscreen on my face every day even in the winter. I live close to a beach but its not that clean IMO.

I used to feel badly that I live a block away from the beach and never lay out.
I felt like I was taking away a nice apartment from someone who would actually enjoy going to the beacj everday.
But I see what my sister looks like. She always tanned and looks so badly aged and she is not even 40 yet! Not to mention there is cancer in my family and I just don't want to up my chances.

I love laying out on the beach when I go away but no matter how hard I try not to, I burn. I wear a hat and wear high spf sunscreen and reapply....doesn't matter.

I embrace my fair skin! Why should I feel badly about who I am??

No self tanner either.....bad, bad experiances.

I stopped laying in the sun many years ago. I do use a tanning towelette which is sold on Home Shopping and they are great. The tan is beautiful and looks like I laid in the sun for hours. I only use it on my arms and legs and no sweating needed

The heat of the sun also makes me physically sick. I get nauseous from too much heat. That's why I stay indoors with the a/c going when it gets really hot outside and especially when it's humid. There is not much about the summer that I like.

I love the sun and beach. I have never had a tan in my life. I am very fair skinned I fry even with a 50 sunscreen. I blister peel and burn again. I am also on medication that intensifies the effects of the sun. Heat stroke happens very quickly.
You find me in the shade , with sunscreen on drinking water

It doesn't get humid where I live very often.
I like summer, things are growing and the evenings and mornings are nice - if you don't get swarmed by mosquitoes.

That's the way I have always had to deal with the sun and heat, avoid it if possible. But if like me, you're out near sunset - you can at least say you've seen plenty of beautiful sunsets.

I don't tan - I burn. I don't go tanning in a tanning bed, and I avoid the sun like the plague. 15 minutes & I'm burnt. My granfather also died of skin cancer.

I like my pasty white complexion.
I'm too antsy to lay around & tan. The running joke is that my white legs make a sheet of paper look tan.

I find "tanning" pretty boring. Never really liked to bake in the sun. I'm proud to be white. I don't tan in the sun or indoor tan. I have used some of the bottle tan (the better stuff) before, but usually don't bother much.

Both hubby and I use sunscreen - I make sure he has it on
I don't look like an alligator either unlike a lot of women my age.
