im oing to the docs in hmmm 8 and a half hours give or take and im really worried...I have this problem with both of my knees its really hard to describe

they do not hurt when im walking but obv i cant do that 24/7
its not a hurty pain so to speak its a dull ache at rest and they are hot inside
when i slowly move they make well what it seems to me as an awfull noise that you feel not hear

i know i sound completly barmy about it i just worry coz its a trait that runs in the women on my mams side and the ops they have had for the exact same problem have resulted in them not bein able to walk properly again so im just worried about the outcome

You don't sound "barmy" to me at all; I know a number of people, some pretty healthy and others less so, who hate going to the doctor for whatever reason, even a routine check-up!

As with any problem, though, it's probably better to find out sooner rather than later whether your knees are an issue or a potential issue.

I wish you the best of luck!

I'll be thinking of you. But just know that I went to a doctor about my hip, supposing I was going to find out something horrible, and ended up getting a new life.

I hope it's nothing serious. I am also having problems walking, I get lots of pressure in my legs. I'm going for a vascular test next month to see if my circulation or lack of is causing the problem. Our legs are so important, good luck to you.

I didn't think you were very old - 20s?
Did you participate in any athletics growing up? It just seems rather odd.

I have some hypermobility in my patellas - they shift around a lot more than they should. I'm also prone to episodes of bursitis. But my knees are free of any arthritis. If they check your knees and can't find anything, have them check your back. My knees will also sometimes ache from redirected pain - the difference between it and bursitis is that my knees don't swell, the ache is more difficult to pinpoint, and that heat or ice on my knees doesn't help.
Unfortunately, it's a lot easier to get back issues and they can easily start in your 20s, younger if you've been in an accident or have any deformities in the spine.

HI hun, oh no, sorry to hear that, if you have history of arthiritis in your family it could be genetic but atleast you have been early about it, there are wonders they can do now, hop the physio goes well, keep us updated.xx

thanks all

Yes i did compete in a lot of sport when i was in school, I just turned 24!

Walking really helps my knees arent sore at all tonight, when i posted my update they were going wild, ive worked out over the last few days (with the help of my pokewalker lol) that i need to do at least 6000 steps for them not to hurt at this time of night (22:15)

Im goin down into the town tomorrow to get something to help ease my joints, I have to phone physio on Monday for a telephone interview and the doctor gave me a few hints on how to get into see them rather than just sending out exercises in the post but ill be looking upto about 3 weeks to get in and see them

Ashley, if it is ligament damage the physio will sort it out. I've damaged the ligaments in my shoulder, but i left it for 6 months before going to see about it so it's taking longer to heal.

My physio is great though. I went back on wednesday and she stretched the muscle. It really hurt but it feels much better. I have different exercises to do for two weeks, and if it's still no better i'm having accupuncture.

My physio is at my doctors surgery, but my sister is over your side of the water and the physio rang her from the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. I found it odd that they didnt see her, but they talked her through some movements while on the phone and diagnosed from that. She was sent her excercises through the post, and they actually worked!. When i told my physio Cathy what they did i asked if it was normal, and she said it was and that a lot of doctors practices do that now.

Now that makes more sense. Add 10+ years to the age of your knees after using them so hard.

Do look into supplements like fish oil, if they don't help your knees feel any better at least they are good for your skin and hair.

If you sew you could make yourself some corn or rice bags to use on your knees. You either put them in the freezer or you can microwave them for a couple minutes - corn is less likely to catch fire/explode in the microwave than other grains. If you make them yourself you could make 4+ and always have a hot and cold set. Cheap and no worry about having a heating pad plugged in.

I suggest this because you may come home a bit sore after your sessions.

Glucosamine worked wonders on Kitty

I used it too for a few weeks because I had similar symptoms in one knee. It got rid of the pain but it interacted with another medication I take so I had to stop taking it but the pain and creaking/crunching hasn`t come back.

I have half a tub left if you want to try it. It`s a bit expensive but I got it on sale in Holland and Barrett. Let me know if you want I can post to you

I hope you get it sorted. I have Hypermobility Syndrome and have had early-onset osteoarthritis in my right shoulder from the age of 9, in my knees since 21, and in my right hip the last few years (I'm just coming up to 40) so I can barely walk more than 200 yards. I was first diagnosed with osteoarthritis when I was 23.

I think it's unlikely to be anything like what I have, or anything like that severity, but I just wanted to sympathise and say I know what it's like to have joint pain at a younger age than would be normally expected, people look at me like I'm mad or faking it, and question me when I tell them it's osteoarthritis cos they don't believe me because I'm not old, but I understand what it feels like. Hope the physio will help and you're feeling young again soon
