could she be further than 6 weeks??

gypsy has spent all day laying about the back garden with me and tonight she is walking very slow (almost as though her back legs are hurting but not in pain) she is lieing down looking very depressed, tierd and fed up, she spent 20 minutes tonight looking all around my bedroom trying to get into drawers, sitting looking at the wardrobe, going under the bed, then she came down the stairs and just lay in the bottom hall. When i woke up this morning to my surprize she was sleeping in her box i sorted for her, first time since last week but even then last week it was only for 5 minutes this time it was all night.

i noticed that one of her teats on the left side had a red mark right at the bottom of it and one of them seem to be a bit whiter than before, do they always lose the "plug" because she is always cleaning down below so it would be kind of hard to notice if she did, she hasnt eaten very much today at all, she even lay in front of her bowl last night and never attempted to eat any

i was abit concerned when the vet said that his best estimate based on the size and weight of gypsy and the size of the kittens gave him the 6 weeks even though i am positive that she was the runt of the litter as her other sister is bigger than her and if she was the smallest then her kittens wont be massive..

sorry for the long post again its just i am a bit not sure and everyone here seems to put my mind at ease...i will try and get a picture of her and let you see if she sits long enough..

thanks again steph

Surely she can.... the only thing to do is to do what you are already doing: Have everything ready as if it were scheduled in the next few hours, and be prepared...
The waiting does takes some extra mental energy, it does...

Set on some calm music perhaps. Helps both gypsy and you in waiting... perhaps even the small ones...

Good luck!

thanks for the reply...i thought early hours this morning it ws going to happen, when i went up to bed she paced all about the top landing doing a weird kind of meow then into the bedroom trying to get into everywhere, i woke up when i heard her meowing and she jumped on to the bed and was so affectionate and purring really hard and loud which is unusal as she has not came for attention in about 3 weeks...she barely ate anything yesterday or last night..im sure the vet has got it wrong!!

Have you felt the kittens moving in her belly yet? That's usually a good "2 week left" mark. It's really hard to tell how far a queen is without feeling thesize of the fetus'. Did your vet papalate her uterus? If he did, he shouldn't be more than a week off. If it was just based on the weight and size, then yes, he could be off. A whole bunch of factors will relate, like her weight before, and the amount of kittens etc.
Good luck with her!

she was in at the vet on the 18th and he stood her up on her hind legs and had a feel about then he said that he can definatly feel 3 but there could possibly be 4/5...then he said "my rough estimate based on the size of the kittens, the size of my gypsy and the weight of her she is about 6 weeks pregnant..but she keeps going crazy at night walking all about the place making a weird meowing/purring noise(kinda hard to describe it if you dont hear it, so is still going crazy at night trying to find places to go..she is starting to go thin at the top of the belly and her tummy is starting to drop and you can also see the spine and starting to see the hip bones..the past couple of days she hasnt been eating much at all

Hmm...well, she certainly could be closer to birth, but I'm guessing(I could be wrong ) that she probably still has a couple weeks left. Cats like to trick us when it comes to labor time...if you rest your hand on her belly can you feel kicking? If you can, she's probably further than 6 weeks, probably closer to 7.

i placed my hand on her tummy yesterday and today and i can feel the whole shape of them and they are big..i havnt felt them kick as such but i can feel them moving under my hand...i can feel the round shape of the head and if i follow the shape down i come to the end of the kitten and they are about 3-4 inches long and there could be upto 5 but 3 definatly, what is the average lengh of a newborn kitten?? ..acoording to his rubbish guess and excuse she would be 7 weeks tomorrow??

i made her a nesting box and she is not interested in it as she prefers under the other halfs chest of drawers and she has been going there for the past 3 nights and i even saw her lying there this afternoon..i put her fleece blanket in there for her but not to sure what else to put in there, ive read a few posts where people have put newspaper in there also so would i have to do that?? She got very playfull tonight and was chasing a lace about and then she lay down and was trying to bite me but still playing and she hasnt done that for a good few weeks, I read somewhere that they can get quite playful as they are getting closer..is this true.

Thanks again..steph

Don't worry, we all get nervous during pregnancys.

Anyway, by your description, it sounds like she is between 6 and 7 weeks now. Here's a very good site that actually shows the exact size of fetus' at every age(it is a bit descriptive with the pics, just so you know) if you scroll down about half way. There's on picture of one at about day 46 that seems to match you description.(By the way, it's shown in centimetres- just divide it by 2.5 to get inches )
