Nations who don't really need to buy outside food

Interesting statistics from around the world re: useful land.

http://www.nationmaster.com/graph/ge...and-use-arable

I was a bit surprised to see the U.K. has 23% arable land (that's pretty good right?) while the U.S.A. has only 18%. ... ..... ..I thought U.S.A. would be higher. And look at Canada - Less than 5%. That's gotta be a mistake.

I guess they'll never grow hungry in Hungary (49% arable land).

Edit: I think I should take back my inclusion of Bangladesh. If I'm not mistaken, they grow a lot of cotton for export and they're small in size so I wouldn't be surprised if they buy food from other countries. Denmark's small too.

The other statistic you need to look at is acres of arable land to population. Bangladesh might be 50percent arable but if you have lots of people in a tiny country that doesn't mean squat as you need a certain number of acres to feed a person.

Canada is huge but that figure doesn't suprise me as much of the land is effectively tundra or mountains.

You're right Lyrajean. I find it interesting Syria is listed at 24% while Jordan (less than 4%) and Egypt (less than 3%) are so low and they're not super far from each other
