I've found a mix of food that will entice my shy male to eat. It's KMR and Royal Canin soft baby kitten food. The female has been eating from a bowl for four days now. Mixture is heated to pretty warm, they stop eating when it cools off.
So, I'm reading the Royal Canin can and it says for kittens 1-4 months: "Feed 1 3/4 to 4 cans per day".
Now, the kittens are 5 weeks, 2 days old. They weigh around 13 ounces. The female eats about 25% of a can per setting 4 times a day; the male eats about 20% of a can per setting. Given the amount of food covering them when they're finished; I'd guess they're consuming about 75% of a can/day (plus now, a good helping of KMR mixed in there).
That's nowhere near 1 3/4 cans. But they are full when they stop eating. Big round belly, burping - heading straight to the litter pan, then down to the nest to sleep.
Does that sound right?
As a side note, the way I convinced the male to eat from the bowl was to lay on the floor with them and put my finger into his portion. I got them a double-serving bowl so each has their own section to eat out of. I tried sitting up while he was distracted eating and he stops and returns to my lap. I'm going to keep trying and hopefully soon he'll stay down there and eat without me laying with him...
