Anyone know why nipples would turn pink?

I know the common reason would be pregnancy. I got this cat from a humaine society and in her paperwork it says she was spayed. I have noticed the last week that Ashes is not acting her normal self and have been keeping a close eye on her thinking she might be getting sick. Today I noticed that her nipples are swelling and turning bright pink (they have been white and very small). I called the humaine society today to see what proof they have of her having been spayed and found out that she was supposed to have been spayed when they got her so they don't have any proof.

Honestly I was a little late to get my youngest female spayed and she never showed any signs of heat, she just popped up pregnant. She just had her babies 2 weeks ago today. Ashes is acting like she did when I figured out Baby Girl was pregnant.

The pound might be wrong about her being altered already and she could be preg.
When my Meeko was preg the only sign was red nipples.
They can get pink/red when they go in heat also.
I have seen it before.

There is also false pregnancy, although that usually also happens when a cat is un-spayed. (I think). There are LOTS and LOTS of people here who actually took their cats in to be spayed that got pregnant later, believe it or not. I guess the only way to be sure would be movement/skeletons on x-ray.

I'm thinking that your "hunch" is correct, unfortunately. Guess it's time for a trip to the vet, huh?

I called the vet and they can't think of anything that would cause her nipples to turn pink except for pregnancy. They said to watch her for a little while longer and then bring her in.

What a shame you didn't get the other girl spayed in time, they can be done as young as 8 weeks.

Cats don't need to be in heat to get pregnant, they are induced ovulators. Being in heat just means they are receptive to the act. They also don't just "pop up pregnant", unspayed girls shouldn't be around intact boys - that's just asking for trouble.

If the new girl is only just pregnant you can still get her spayed, don't wait any longer or it may be too late to spay. And if she's not pregnant the vets can shave her belly or flank to look for a spay scar.

Here they do males between 4-5 months and females 5-6 months of age. Regardless, the first one was my fault, I should have had her spayed. This one I never thought twice about because she is one of my cats and I was told she was spayed. I have had her for over a year with no signs of heat or a pregnancy. I have the 4 that I guess you can say I'm "fostering". I found them as kittens and I've been trying to find them homes but so far there's no takers. I have been slowly getting them fixed and keeping up with vaccines and any other medical care they need. Baby Girl is one of the 4. She is going in as soon as her kittens are weaned. Kittens are very cute and adorable but I really like them best when they are grown. Lol. No more curtain climbing and etc. (well usually).

You have kittens right? Is it possible they are nursing off this cat? Strange as it is I had a spayed cat "nursing" 2 lil kittens I found years back. They nursed from 6 weeks till about 5 months when they got fixed. After that they never tried again. She actually got bigger nipples and mil came out-ya I was shocked.

I read that they can do that but she hasn't been around the kittens. But who knows, maybe it's just because she knows they are here. Lol
