Hello,

I have an 8 month old male cat, I adopted him when he was 2 months old.

I took him to the vet and got all his injections
He also got his ears cleaned.

a week later I noticed the ear mites were back, took him for the vet again to get an antibiotic ear drop to end it once and for all (a previous vet gave my first cat an antibiotic ear drop and used it for 1 week and never got those ear mites ever again, it's been a year and 6 month now and his ears are clean)

back to my poor baby, the vet told me that he doesn't need anything just cleaning it every once in a while.

He's the vet I thought he knew better.

Now almost 6 month my cat started to scratch his ear where you can see it clearly in his ear flaps, took him to the vet and said not to worry!

after one month I have noticed some redness on the outer part of the ear, took him to a different vet and told me they're fungus!!!

gave me a cream called canesten
used it for 3 weeks and the redness was 90% gone
last week I took a look at his ear from inside and it was horrible it looked like this

brown things on the flap plus lots of ear mites inside

I went to a third vet and told me the following:

for the fungus on the outer part of the ear:
1. clean it with betadine solution diluted in water.
2. apply canesten.

for the ear mites:
1. use waxol ear drops and clean with cotton bud.
2. use oridermyl ear ointment for the ear canal.

everything is ok and I bought all the medication except for the oridermyl ointment I couldn't find it or even find a substitution!

So he told me use dermatin ear drops.

I googled it and some said don't use it on the ear canal as it might make my cat deaf.

what should I do?

Where are you at? I don't know what country you're in, but if you can get it Revolution is a monthly treatment for fleas that will also kill ear mites. If you can get this and keep up with the monthly doses for 2-3 months that should take care of the ear mites, unless your cat is allowed outside or around other cats where he could catch them again.

Are any of these vets ever taking a sample to culture? or are they guessing that it's a yeast infection?

I'm in Riyadh and all the vets here are horrible, my vet back in Abu Dhabi was great even though my first cat was an outdoor cat his ears are still clean!

And no they just clean the ear and discharge us.

I just want to know if the ear drop will cause deafness

How frustrating! I don't know anything about the medication, though, so I can't help with that. I'm hoping someone more knowledgeable might come along soon to help. Or, you might want to start a thread titled, "Help with dermatin ear drops" to see if that would attract more folks.
